Todays find...1916 Mercury Dime

I read a newspaper article about an old swimming spot not far from me, so I decided to give it a look during my lunch-hour. I changed out of my suit & tie and within minutes found the dime. I was not wearing my glasses, and I could make out the date, but I couldn't tell if it had a mintmark or not. The chances of finding any Denver mintmark on an early 20th century coin in this region are slim, but I was still hopeful. It is always nice to find any silver.

Nice find. I like the looks of the Mercs. I've found 2 of them. Did you clean it or did it come out of the ground like that?

That is the way it popped out. I just blew off the dust.

I keep all coins for my collection so I clean the silver. The silver I have found has some black tarnish. I dip it in silver jewelry cleaner then use a polishing cloth. I like the shiny look. Here is an example.

That's the nice thing about silver - real money, instead of the cheap junk we are forced to contend with now.
