todays [brrrr] battlefield finds

GRAY GHOST

New member
hello all, i froze my butt off today but still managed to bring the goodies home! i heard about a fella on this site who wanted to see more posts...ok! this is what i found: a tent grommet, a huge percussion cap, a ball from the famous 69 cal. buck and ball arrangement, a large round piece i think is an old toy wheel, a spencer bullet casing, a rough 3 ringer, a rough 2 ringer, a seriously mushroomed bullet, a solid brass buckle{probably confederate} a solid iron buckle for mules, and 2 flat buttons. this all came from the part of battlefield ive hunted only a couple of times due to weather/work schedule. i found a boatload last month and posted it previously, so i cant include that. all of this stuff was found involving the battle of hanover station, va. and still have 55+ acres to go. weather permitting i will soon revisit and hopefully find a cs beltplate!!! hang on the bad weather will pass, its still out there, hh,

Great finds Gray Ghost:beers:

That thing on the upper right looks like a lock nut.

HH,

The round object with spokes on the upper right is the center portion of a folding umbrella. The usage of umbrellas were popular among civilians in the "Old South", not just for protection from rain, but for shade from the hot summer sun. They were commonly called parasols. Their are two examples shown and described in the book, "Civil War Artifacts", by Howard R. Crouch, on page 53. I found one last Summer. Nice finds.
