Well, i set up an airtest today. I took a video of me digging an 18 inch hole, but the video is so long, i cant post it on photobucket or youtube. Gonna have to edit it. :( These air tests dont represent how the detector will work in the ground. A preset ground balance machine isnt going to do well in bad soil compared to an airtest. I did this just to show yall how our detectors (me and brothers) do not get extreme depths. If yall think that we have dud detectors, please feel free to buy us another one.  Take what you want from the videos. I love my Cibola, and would never sell it, unless Tesoro made another better model.

Robert

P.S. Click on videos to start them. There are 3.

Compadre air test.

Cibola air test with and without supertuning. BIG DIFFERENCE!! I was running out of room on camera, so made it less quality.

Object size for Cibola to hit 18 inches.

Nice videos Rob, I'll do some more air tests with my Cibola and compare results. I think mine is quite deeper. I'll reply in a couple days.

Great Post. Your test seems to be fair and accurate. I've been wondering about the depth of the Cibola - as you said some people are claiming much more depth than what you found. I'm sure each machine varies and battery power has something to do with it, but you gave us all a real good idea of the reality of it.

I would like to see one of the Vaquero if you have that machine available to you.

Thanks,

Ian

After watching your video's I thought to myself "gee, my Vaquero does better than that!" so I quickly duplicated your test, and guess what... I got very similar results. The proof is in the tape measure!

I read somewhere that stories about depth are like stories about fish... At times, I think we are all guilty of over-estimating exactly how big that fish really was...

BTW way I love my Vaquero!

at claims I've read in reviews, etc.

I love Tesoro and now use the Tejon but it doesn't do any company any good to exaggerate its products abilities.

Now you should do this same test with some of those other brands :super:

Another fun test is to freshly bury coins and see how much is lost from air distance. Get really for a really BIG shock!

The fact is it takes one heck of a detector to detect a dime an honest 7 inches deep. Most can only go about 4 1/2 inches (I mean a signal one would notice).

Great post! You're a brave young man.
