Today I unveiled a beautiful lady.

Today I decided to hunt an area that I had just recently found a 1909 Wheatie. I had the feeling that there was more to be found at the site. Upon arrival I saw much to my dismay another guy swinging his detector. I introduced myself and told him that I too metal detected. He told me that he was just passing thru the area on his way back to Oregon and that he had seen the site and decided to hunt it. He told me that he had not been very successful and that he was leaving. He said I was welcome to hunt the site. I had permission and seeing that he was just passing thru, I had the feeling that he did not have permission, but I thanked him anyway and fired up the MXT.
I had been hunting for a short time and was sweeping a loose pile of dirt that had been pushed there by a bulldozer. I received a strong iron signal mixed with a quarter signal. I thought it might be an aluminum can but decided to dig it none the less. A moment later I had a rusted nail in my pouch. I then ran my coil over the soil once more and got a signal indicating quarter and 50 cents. I removed a couple scoops of dirt and saw a white bottle with a large silver coin laying next to it. I removed the coin and saw that it was a 1922 Peace dollar in great condition. In over 20 years of detecting this is my first silver dollar find and to say I was excited would be a understatement. I cringe when I think that had I not checked the soil one more time before moving on, I still would not have the silver dollar. HH Dennis in Idaho

Those silver dollars are hard to find and it is a dream everyone has to find one of them. Many will detect a lifetime and never find one, many we have seen found were not that deep either and many may have thought they were alum cans or trash. I have got 3 myself all Morgans and all had a lot of use on them. 1 was found in 1976 and 2 of them in 1977 and I still remember where they were found like it was yesterday. I am sure you will remember this one too as long as you live.

Again GREAT FIND!!!

These photos were taken on site with my camera phone which are not the best, but this is the first time this pretty lady has seen the light of day in many a year. Camera phones are not always the best when you want a good photo to record your finds. HH Dennis in Idaho

for a woman her age! I've been hunting 35 years. And, with your beautiful find, we are tied with one silver dollar each. Now it is time for that illusive gold coin. Do you want to go first or can I? By the way, what coil were you using? I just got my 6-inch Excellerator this week and am waiting for the rain to stop so I can give it a go. HH Randy

Hey Digger it has be awhile. I was using my 6" DD Exclerator coil. I think you will like the coil. Let me know how it works for you. It has been on my MXT 99 percent of the time since I began testing it.
When I recovered my dollar I cleaned it up a bit as it was pretty dingy but it was in such good shape I could hardly believe my eyes. It is my favorite find so far. As for the gold coin lets race to see who gets one first. HH Dennis

Wow Dennis,

You got one of those dream finds. I think there is an exclusive Silver Dollar Finders Club and you are now a member. I bet it is hard not to smile now.

Continue having good luck, Bob
