I went to the beach again this morning choosing Garden City since I had been working different parts of Myrtle beach for the past week or so. When I arrived I noticed a swashed out area that ran all the way to the pier. I would say about 900 yds. Well as soon as I started I found a penny. Which for me usually means that I was going to have very slim finds that day. Well about 30 minutes later I had found a watch. Worthless, but I always enjoy finding something other than clad or trash. I had walked all the way to the pier when I spotted three other detectorists working under the pier. So I decided to work my way back up the swash, slightly overlapping where I had already detected. I had walked about half way back when my V3i hit a 45 no 48 no 45, 48. Well that seemed a bit odd, but I was swinging over an inch of water as well. So the signals were a little jumpy anyway. I was figuring it was going to be a bottle cap or maybe a penny. Now let me add this. Usually when I get a good signal close to 50 I am looking into my scoop with anticipation. Well not this time. I shook the scoop and was reaching for what I thought was a bottle cap. As soon as it touched my fingers I knew it was a ring. I thought it was only a junk ring and placed it in my pocket, (the good find pocket cause I had not looked it over well yet). Once I finished my return walk I decided to take a break. It had been almost four hours since I started. I sat in my car and pulled out the ring. Tungsten Carbon (QG). WOW never seen one of those before. After my break I was set to find another cool find. I walked out on the beach and this time went the opposite direction. I had walked about 100 yards when I noticed a drag mark. I immediately stopped and looked up. That's right, another detectorist had already been down that side. There were holes everywhere. It looked like a blind gofer had moved in. On the far side of those holes I could see another detectorist. So I made my way over to say hi. I asked him the usual "find anything good". as I pointed back to the holes. He informed me that he had just arrived and there was yet another detectorist who was there. Well after talking I was on my way back to the house to look at my new finds.

Well that's my story for today. Hope I didn't drag on too long or bore anyone.

I now have a question. I looked on line to find a value for the ring. They ranged from $30. to a few hundred. Could anyone narrow this down for me?
Also. Can anyone please tell me how to clean this ring. I heard that tungsten was scratch resistant but didn't want to take the chance without finding out more.

Thanks for listening and for any help..

I use a tumbler with stainless steel shot and water with a couple of drops of dawn dish washing liquid, I'm pretty sure it would polish up that ring.
Great finds!!

Hi Ferdware, that would be me (and my dog, Buddha) you were talking to! I didn't expect to find you on here.

When I got there, I found a great parking place near one of the hotels. I figured it'd be a good spot to detect...well so did somebody else. As I walked out on the beach, I saw those same pot holes and drag marks - somebody beat me to it. They covered an area the size of a football field. I kept walking until I got past where they had covered already, and that's where I met up with you.

I got off to a slow start. For the first half hour, I didn't even find any aluminum or bottle caps! Me thinks that area has been detected before!?! Since it was slow, I turned on Mixed Mode and started digging anything that beeped. I found a lot of wire, a tent peg, lead weights, paper clips, rust , and some clad. When my battery ran out I drove up to Surfside and detected there for a while, but the tide was coming in, so I left early.

P.S. This is the silver ring I found the other day.

Hi Gundog,
It's always cool to meet a detectorist on the beach and on the forum as well.
I did the same thing, headed to surfside pier. But wife called and had to run. Just FYI I never find anything at surfside pier.
Congrats on the ring. Looks like it may have some age to it.$$
Enjoyed meeting you and Buddha. Maybe we will cross tracks again.
Happy hunting.
