#1.. I feel headphones are one of the most important accessories anyone can have.
#2. It's my opinion that headphone selection is really a personal thing because we are each different in our hearing abilities, the amount of time we might spend out detecting, and our budgets can dictate how much we can spend on some equipment.
#3,, My personal preference is to use headphones ALWAYS, unless I am relying on the speaker response during one-on-one instruction or demonstration. Headphones can block out distracting noise, masking noise, and that includes people, traffic, surf, and wind, to name only four things.
#4.. I know many feel the lower-cost headphones are adequate for them and are in their budget. I'm referring to the bulk of the headphones that are promoted by most manufacturers and generally have been/are in the $29.95 to $49.95 range. They are definitely better than no headphones at all.
#5.. My preference is for headphones that fit the head more snugly and don't tend to flop around or fall off like many of the lower-cost models do. Also, headphones that have a higher impedance. In short, I prefer headphones that cover my ears, comfortable, while staying put. Headphones that tend to have a more brilliant audio as I can hear the weaker and/or deeper target responses better.
#6.. For what it's worth, my personal headphone choices are now three.
A.. The new Spectra Sound Wireless headphones that came with my Vision/Spectra V3. I love the cordless design and will like it even better when in the brushy ghost towns.
B.. Killer B 'Wasp' headphones.
C.. SunRay Pro Gold headphones which are essentially the Killer B Wasp (I believe they're still making the SunRay headphones) w/leather earcups.
I know that for many we're coming into "detecting season" and this will be a topic that comes up frequently so I thought I'd offer up my thoughts and preferences .. for what they might be worth.
Happy Hunting!
