To those who are using the 10.5" DD 7.5 khz coil.

I just got the 10.5" DD coil and mounted it to the X-70, I wanted to see where the signal was located in the pinpoint mode. Sure enough its right down the middle, front to back except within an inch of the edge of the coil. I tested a coin in the coin mode and ran it across, it sounded like 3 targets, there are 3 places on the coil that produce a signal. To me this seems like a problem if there is very much trash due to target masking and being able to isolate single targets that are close together. The signal even sounds different from the stock coil. Now, to those of you that have actually used the coil in the field, how well are you able to zero in on good targets in trashy spots. I haven't taken it out yet to test it, being that I just got it yesterday. I'd like to hear how well you doing with the 10.5" DD 7.5 Khz coil. Thanks in advance.

Dan the big coil hits on the outer edges of the coil and then again in the center so that is what you must be talking about. Lots of coils do this, you have to center up your target and yes in a trashy area this could be a problem, thats why the smaller coils are better for trash, to isolate the signal better from all the targets. You can always work with the larger coil by moving around the target to get the best possible isolation on it but if your in that trashy of an area the smaller coil would be best. I use the big coils on the beach but not in trashy areas unless I dont have my small one with me and then I just make due:thumbup:

Of course going to pinpoint mode will eliminate that triple hit also:thumbup:

Dan, I've been using the 10.5" DD 7.5 coil on my X-t-50 for the past year or so and you well get a double hit
on something that is right on top of the ground, but if it's a inch or so deeper you wont have that problem.
Like Neil said, the 10.5 DD is not the coil to use in trashy areas. The more you get to know the 10.5" DD
coil, the better you well do in them areas, but it's still not the coil to use in trashy areas.

If your after the deeper old coins you well love that coil.

Dam, I personal love the 10.5DD coil. I hunt with X-70 for relic hunting. For Pure Depth ground covage it cant be beat. If go to pin/point mode and go slow you can get X makes spots to say. The 9inch 3Feq. in my best in trashy site.

Dan,
As someone already stated, you will often get this response on targets that are very close to the surface.
A target that is about 2" down will only give a single beep when you pass over it.
One thing that helps me to pinpoint these shallow targets is to lift the coil up a little while sweeping which moves the target away from the coil and makes pinpointing easier.
I do not use the pinpoint feature on my X-terra 50, but use the xing method and usually have no problem marking the target location. I have used mine around old lots where homes have been torn down and found many coins in spite of the large amounts of trash.
I like this coil for the ground coverage that it gives, especially when hunting large areas and places where there are not many targets.
Hope this helps.

It looks like you have already had some good advise Dan, so I won't go over what has already been said, but will add a few more comments.
Personally, in trashy ground, the DD coil will shine, despite it's size. First of all, in regards to the multi hits you are getting on the one target (in discriminate mode) there are 2 things that will let you know that the target is under the outer edge. The main one is to watch the depth metre as it passes over. When the target hits the outer edge, generally you will find that it will indicate that the target is deeper than when the centre of the coil passes over it. 2 Sometimes the ID will drop back a notch. I own a 30, but from what I understand, the 70 will still show the ID of the target that is passing under the coil while in pinpoint mode. (you can do the same in discriminate mode anyway.) This helps in trashy sites because you can tell one target from another. As pointed out, this is when Xing works really well.
Something else that may be of a small help; if a target is in the top inch, a target will sound off louder under the logo, than any other part of the coil.
Mick Evans.
