To the Test Garden with the Tek G2 (plus recent finds)

I made a very small test garden with a few coins and a couple of civil war bullets. They have been buried for about a week. This is in red Tennessee dirt.
Target #1 Clad quarter buried at 8 inches. The g2 makes solid contact, in Disc and All Metals mode. Gain at 100.
Target#2 Clad dime at 7.5 inches. The G2 makes good contact in both modes. Gain at 100.
Targt#3 Copper penny at 7 inches in root filled, different part of yard. The surface of ground uneven. Solid Contact. Gain at 100.
Target #4 Copper penney at 3.5 inches. Very solid contact. Hi pitched VCO. Gain at 100
Target #5 Clad nickel at 7.5 inches. Solid contact. Gain at 100
Target#6 58 caliber Minie Ball (3 ringer) at 8.5 inches. Nice solid hit in both modes. I even turned the gain to 50 and hit it good!!!
Target#7 52 caliber Sharps Carbine Solid Base. 10.5 inches! Solid hit. The VCO was quieter obviously in disc mode. In all metal......easy hit!!! This made me happy!

I did some precise measuring of each target. I put the measuring tape from top of coin/bullet to the edge of a level laid across hole. After taking measurement, I repacked soil and sod over target. After testing my G2 over these targets that I am apt to hit in the field, my confidence level is high in my machine! Hope this helps someone, even though it's just a simple test on newly buried targets. Have a good one and Happy Hunting......Oh....one more thing....here is some finds I made in the woods with my G2 last Saturday:

Hi Kevin---That's an impressive test report and also good digs from your hunt.------Couple of questions---what did the detector g.b. at (#) in your red TN dirt?-------Also, you said solid contact (on the response) of those test targets.----How much deeper do you think the detector would have read on them? (approx. total depth)-----------Good report/hunt---thanks for sharing.----------Del

Thanks kevin

I'm assuming you're using the 11" coil. If that's with the small coil then I'm really impressed!
I would think that if you're using the 11" coil you could hit a 58 cal. minnie ball at 14" or more.
Am I wrong? But then again, being buried only a week it might not be much of a real life test.
With my Minelab Explorer and the stock 11.5" coil I can pick up minnie balls at 16" easy. Those are big targets compared to
coins.

Nice test.I just get more impressed with the GB all the time.

I'm glad that several found this info helpful. I performed this little simulation to boost my own confidence, and the Teknetics G2 didn't let me down. It's an ultra-lite weight little fireball of a machine. When ya slide your arm through the loop and grab the handle, it feels as if it's merely an extension of your arm. It's quiet running, and this means alot to me.
The ground balance was in the 57 to 64 range or thereabouts. I ground balanced before swinging each target. My ground is so mineralized, that it's not easy top find a place to ground balance.
The targets that I practiced on today where not the limits of the machine. I just chose random depths. I'm quite sure that it will hit a bullet at deeper, cause it still seem to have some range left over.
This was an amateur test by an amateur detectorist. But the test met it's purpose: to give me confidence when I'm afield. I chose to post it here because I figured that it might do the same for some of y'all.
Happy Hunting.
PS. To the person inquiring about the 'clad nickel'. I don't know why I used the word 'clad' when referring to the nickel test. Wasn't thinking I guess.

Thanks again Kevin.----I think you gave us all a confidence boost in this little fireball G2!----------Del

Thank you for your time and effort. I live in TN. also and you were as close to normal as anyone on the targets and depth. If it is not a Buffalo, V or a war nickel it is a clad nickel. That's a pretty good definition don't you think? HH :teknetics::minelab:

after seeing this i think this fall i well get one from big boys  keep the tips coming and happy hunting
