To Steve Herschbach - M6 stock coil on MXT question

Steve, you seem to have access to both metal detectors. Is there any chance of you trying the M6 stock coil on the MXT and put the results on the MXT forum? I am curious as others are, that by doing this, would the MXT operate better or any different than the stock 9 inch coil that comes with the MXT (which personally, I don't really care for too much). If they are interchangeable, how does the stock 9 inch MXT coil work on the M6 and how does the stock M6 coil work on the MXT or is there any difference at all? Thanks for your time and answer if you come up with one. Thanks again!

Hi Fred,

I guess I'm one of the few who like the stock coil. It has done very well for me and it is remarkably sensitive to small gold items in particular. Maybe that is why I like it as opposed to those that hunt coins. I have the 6" DD and 10" DD and 14" DD and 18" Excelerator and 12" HotShot but all in all the stock coil seems pretty hard to beat to me. Maybe I got a good one?

I'll see if I can make time to check out the new coil by swapping on one machine. Pretty busy right now with year-end/inventory/etc stuff. I have learned a lot about the M6 so hopefully can do a write-up soon.

Hi Guys,

I did not do some kind of killer scientific comparisons. I just swapped the 950 coil and M6 coil back and forth on an MXT and an M6 and tried a few test items in air tests. In particular a tiny gold nugget (about two grains) and a dime.

No real difference between the two coils I could discern. Certainly nothing would make me spend cash to buy an M6 coil to replace a 950 coil.

Results might vary in the field, and they certainly do vary a bit from coil to coil. I always wonder how many people have bad coils out there and do not know it and so their machine gets the blame for poor performance. Some coils are just plain bad and you know it, but some are just a bit off and you will never know unless you compare similar units.

I've had my MXT going on 3 years (maybe 4) and the stock coil is hard to beat... In my humble opinion. I love it for deep coin hunting. I've got the proof in my coin books :)I also have the Big Foot (which I LOVE to use for surface coins and to clean up the 3"-4" surface BEFORE going for the deep coins) I too think there must be some bad stock coils out there from reading others comments on it. My husband (Larry, which I'm using his "user name"....sorry) uses the DFX and there's many days that I can out-hunt him. But then, you just have to put your coil over the target.

HH to all...
Nancy
