To scrub or not?

Been out a few times with my new machine and was wondering if I should be scrubbing the ground with my coil? I was reading the manual last night and it said not to. Any thoughts?

I run my coil just brushing the top of the grass or just above the ground in the absence of grass. I would not recommend trying to get it any closer for two reasons. 1) It could cause the detector to false and provide inaccurate target IDs and 2) you could damage the coil by an inadvertent bump into a rock or other object.

Get that coil as close to the dirt as possible! If you can scrub it, scrub it! If you could wear out a coil cover, you have put in some serious detecting time! Replacement covers are cheap too.

That's basically what I do. I run it as close to the ground as possible. In the grass, it's touching the grass, in the dirt, it

I also run mine right on the ground. If there's a lot of weeds or what not, I lift up a little. Say in a park, I'm resting the about

I also run on the ground...but I hate when that little twig catches your coil and gives off a 12-47 scream! I doubt I will wear out my coil cover rubbing it on grass in my lifetime

Absolutely as low as I can get it. My scuff cover is slick from scrubbin' & rubbin', why did I pay for the extra depth??
