To paint or not to paint coil

New member
I am doing some water hunting on a fresh water lake with Fisher 1280x
which has 10" coil... but I can't see much of coil underwater ... black coil with gold logo
and lots of mud and dirt.

I painted my scoop white and it is showing nicely under 3 feet of water.
Here is my latest video with white scoop

Would you guys paint it or something else?
Was thinking of some kind of ribbons or fluorescent stickers.

Thank you!

I use fl yellow duct tape on the top of my Excal coil- works well.

I have never seen duct tape in fluorescent ... :)

Thank you Champ.

Got mine at Walmart. Many different fl colors to choose from too.

Duct tape works good... ive also used white paint on a different coil.. both methods work well... just make sure whatever you use that it does not have any metalic ingredients in it... it helps alot...

I am concerned about painting coil so I am going for duct tape - hopefully it is not too much drag in water.

Thank you guys.

If you can find it at a reasonable cost there is a product called plastidip that come in many fluorescent colors. I painted my red very visible . I m not home so I can't post pic.

Ive got all my water coils tips painted florescent yellow or white. Ive not seen a down side to doing this.

Taped few fluorescent peaces to coil...
now it is better in dark and murky water, like swamp that I go to...
excellent in shallow water.

Experiment is not over :bouncy: will try to tape few on lower part of stem.
On 1280x it is black too...

The coil is a tuned antenna and painting it might de-tune it.
I would not do that.

Go for the tape if you really must.
