To Hot

I've found that when its really hot, wearing my killer b's just burn me up. My last resort is to leave them at home. Tried a pair of light weight stereo phones last night, they were cool, but the sound was terrible. Looking for other solutions and suggestions.

Howdy markg

I got a pair of Killer B's Stinger heaphones, the ones that have only one ear phone. You would think they would ask half of the money that they get for a regular pair, but they cost around $75 , but I like mine. When one ear gets too hot, you just switch to the other. When it gets too hot to detect, and the ground dries up, I put my land detectors up, and get out the Tiger Shark for some lake hunting. Have a good'n.................Hombre

There are headphones with vented backs - oads evo's are the ones that I know about. Might be worth a look.

The Tabdog had mentioned using some wireless headphones that had ear clips, I think from Radio Shack...
Before he got sick.

Perhaps he'll be able to give us a report when he gets to feeling better.

I sure hope he heals up quick!

"Over the ear" type headphones are always hot, even the Stereo type when listening to music. "On the ear" type are cooler, but don't offer the ambient db (outside noise) rejection. Plus the fact they are dark, doesn't help when the sun's out. If they are new, store them by placing them on a bowling ball or some other form to make sure the headpiece loosens. The tighter they are on your head, the hotter they feel. Over time, they loosen up and you will notice they don't seem as hot. It usually takes about 2-3 weeks for headphones to loosen up with this method.

Hightone:
I am with you, don't much care for over the ear phones. I have used radio shack t35a phones that when on sale you can get them for less than $20. The t35a is the new version. I have been using the older model for years. They work on Garrett, Tesoro and Whites detectors. I do have fancy pairs of Garrett and Whites headphones but have only used them for one or two times. Too hot and hurt my ears after a while. The t35a and older versions have volume control on the line are light and rest on the ear. Hope this helps? Z

Sorry hightone and markg. Meant my post to go to markg. Got the messages mixed up.
Markg I haven't been able to keep my head phones on for hours and day after day. Always hurt my ears and hot. So I use the on the ear type and have always used those.
Thanks for the advice on putting the phones on bowling ball hightone. Used to do that with my baseball glove with a ball in it and a heavy book on top of mit. Thanks for reading...Z

I use Sony earbuds, like the ones in the photo, from the time it starts hitting the mid 80's, around the middle of April, until it starts cooling off ,which is usually in mid October. Normally we start getting mid 90's in May, and 100's aren't unusual from June through August, so full size phones are pretty much out of the question. I paid 9.99 plus tax for the Sony buds at Walmart 7 or 8 years ago and they're still working fine. They have a 1/8 inch plug, which require a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter, but haven't had any problems with them and they're for sure a lot cooler than the Timberwolf Lobos I use when the temps cool down. The sound isn't as good as the Lobos but it's good enough considering how much cooler they are to use:).

How do the earbuds work, without a volume control? It's not too loud, is it?

How long is the cord? All the ones I've seen are 1 meter, and that's too short for me???

5ft cord would work...

If it's too loud, you can get an inline volume control

from Radio Shack.

Happy Hunting,

I I know how hot those headphones can get, I went to WalMart and got some small around the earplug headphones. Only $10, no weight problem average sound and most important they work. That's only food for thought, check them out. Happy Hunting.
