To everyone who has experience using the rock tumbler.....do you use any of the finer polishing grit
for your other projects?

I bought a Grit Pack from Harbor Freight but the packs seem very small:
4 oz course
4 oz fine
2 oz polish
2 oz prepolish

So how do you use this stuff. The pack does not come with any instructions. I'm guessing you use it dry.

Can it be reused? Other wise it seems really expensive to go to the trouble of using this stuff.

I've just used aquarium rocks for the last 15 yr or so, wore out 2 tumblers, I use the rocks over and over till they look like BB's, I never even thought bout using anything but the aquarium rocks and a lil dishsoap or whatever soap was handy ( spoonfull or so), Dang mebbe I been a doin it wrong!!!!

Those grit packs are strictly for rocks. If you use them on your coins you'll end up with some nice looking small metal disks. Gravel and soap for coins. If you're interested in polishing rocks I can steer you in the right direction.

Simple aquarium gravel, water, a shot of concentrated cleaner, will work fine. I always throw a half of a brillo pad into the mix for that added touch.

I already kn ow about the gravel and stuff...I wanted to know about using grit on coins that have no collectors value.
