To dig or not to dig

Seems like its going to take me a while to get the hang of this lark. My second time out yesterday gave me lots of good strong signals, problem being that no matter where I turned the Laser Scout discriminator it stayed the same, suggesting lost tractors, bags of spanners etc. In other words, lots of big lumps of iron. So my question is, should I dig all of these or press on in the hope of something more rewarding?

If you find a yellow and rust 1953 Massey Ferguson it is mine and please send it home! Switch to all metal and slowly measure the width of the target. Big iron and plumbing are easy to identify this way. A little experience doing this will help you eliminate those big ones that do not disc out. Or you could open a spanner and tractor resale shop and make some battery money. HH!

I am a strong believer in the Beep-Dig philosophy!
Reguardless of your experience and especially with a new machine digging everything will teach you more quickly what various targets sound like.
Believe me it will pay off!
Once you have learned that your ear becomes the most reliable discriminator.
I will practice what I preach, while learning my Cortes!

Both replies are good advice! These big 'iron' tagets you keep getting, have you dug many of them to see what it actually is? also, this might sound a bit daft but... have you got your machine set to the all metal position? if you have, you will hear EVERY METAL THING in the ground! if you are a 'Newbie' then it's easily done Another thing, don't have the sens set too high or the machine will become unstable, and it will make a lot of noise!
It would be helpful to ALL HERE if you could let us know what settings you were running your machine at, and also what kind of ground you were detecting on at the time you had these problems. Let us know Mick. HH charlie(UK)
