Hope I dont bore you all with this... Len just asked a question on the photo forum and it got me to thinking. After a few months using the Explorer I started relying on three things to decide if I should dig or not. First the tone..solid round items just sound sooo good. If a coin is less than 8 inches, and it is in the open then it calls out to the Explorer..Second is the depth and size of the pinpoint.. if it is 4 to 8 inches it might be an old coin..depends on all the usual factors (fill, etc) Third is the smart screen..If it sounds great, and is up in the right corner area it is worth pursuing..I dig lots of brass signals, but these are usually great sounding signals too.. I guess I just wanted to say that before I dig a signal I already have an idea if it is a coin or a piece of brass or a button/shotgun shell.. Lots of small upper right signals that at first seem to be a coin waver a bit either in sound or the smart screen, and after I dig them I find myself saying "hmm.. I knew that wasn't quite right to be a coin" Sorry to ramble so much, but I thought it might help someone who is new to the explorer...HH, Woody
