To buy, or not to buy?

I am trying to justify my "want to". I would appreciate your experiences of operational and performance facts between the E-Trac and CTX detectors. I am sure many pros and cons have been discussed for each machine within various posts on the Findmall forums, and I appoligize for any repetition. Your comments of the differences that you have personaly experienced thru ownership and operation of the two detectors will be greatly appreciated. I have owned the Minelab Explorer XS and SE, and currently use the E-Trac, so I wanted to understand what bang for the buck I'll gain with the CTX3030. I live in Northern Alabama, so most of the dirt is red, mineralized and hard.

Thanks in advance to the Minelab operators for your experience and knowledge.

Thanks Mickfin. You and I have traveled a similar learning path with the minelabs. Is there less falsing with the faster processor? Could you tell a big improvement with the CTX from the Etrac when in high trash? I read a post that stated you did not need a smaller coil since the CTX has such improved signal separation in trash. What are your thoughts?
Thanks, Kurt

I recently purchased the CTX 3030 and couldn't be happier. I also use the etrac. The difference in trashy areas is profound. As several members have mentioned, I've been finding "keepers" that also have trash located right next to the target. I'm not an expert with this machine yet, but my finds have been pretty good. Just the other day, I was searching an old park and met another gentleman that told me the park had been hunted out. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I had just found an old silver wedding band and two Indian head pennies. The balance of the CTX is much better than the etrac. I'm able to hunt for 6 or more hrs with no fatigue. The customization of the CTX is second to none. You can "personalize" it quite easily. The machine is expensive, but you get what you pay for. Hop on the bandwagon and enjoy the ride!
