To All Those Users Who Have Used Both Tone Versions Of The Golden uMax

Should I switch from the old tone version to the new tone version on my Golden uMax?

Tabman,
My vote is YES!

I have found the new tone arrangement much better than the old one. No, the tones are no longer in conductive order, but objects are much easier classified into their conductive ranges.

On the old version, the two middle tones are too close together in pitch. You know if you count the blended tones at the edge of the ranges, you have 5 tonal responses in that middle range. My work around for that was to use the notch switch to tell me which one was the dominate tone. I'd switch it narrow and wide to see which one broke up the audio response and that in turn would give me a clearer picture of the conductive range of the target. With the new tone version I no longer have to do that. I can very distinctly hear the difference in that 5 tonal response range.

Also I like the way the new nickel tone ( I call the gold tone) stands out from the rest of the tones. If I set it for foil, the targets in the foil conductive range jump out at me. What ever conductive area I set it to, targets that hit there really stand out, plus I get a real good adjustable iron/foil blended tone range that lets me get my iron disc just right without having to dial in any actual discrimination. I can do it all by tones. That lets me leave my discrimination dial set to mininum and get the best depth out the detector it can provide.

I like it.

Thanks Mike. I like to hunt the range that is just above foil sports drink caps to just below pull tabs for gold rings. Can that range be set up for just one tone and notch out everything from pull tabs to zinc pennies like I can on the old tone version?

Thanks to Mike Hillis is the reason I bought a Golden umax, I really like it and made it my main machine to hunt with, thanks Mike, hank

I still haven't made up my mind yet. I need more input. Both Mikes have just about convinced me to go with the new tone.:)

Also, I'm thinking about sending it in with one of my 8 inch doughnut coils to have it tuned and calibrated to the Golden. I like that coil better than I do the 9 x 8.

Tabman,
I want to say yes, but before I do I want to verify it on the machine and just haven't had time to do that yet.
