To all our members from Oz, I hope you are safe from the terrible wildfires!

Yeah, what the boob tube is showing looks pretty nasty.

the sun was glowing red here (New Zealand) yesterday evening It was the strangest day, it was 34 and this weird warm wind and overcast , which was probably the smoke from aussie.......

Hi Bill.
Most folks that come on here are well clear of the fires, however, the fire around Bendigo, is on the southern end of the Victorian Golden Triangle (Their main gold field area). In that area would be the highest concentration of detecting shops and businesses in the country. There are a couple of posters in that area. I sure hope they are OK. The ferocity of those fires are far greater than have ever been seen before in this country. It's normally safe to stay in your home when a fire comes through, but they have so much heat, that the houses are just exploding in front of the fire. The combination of the drought, which has been going on for 7 to 9 years without having been properly broken, combined with the hottest temps on record, probably have caused it to be the intensity that it is.

Hi Moa.
We're getting the same haze here as well. The nearest fire is 250kms away, but we're getting plenty of smoke blown our way. But you're 3 000 kms away! That smoke sure does travel!

G'day All,
I live in Gippsland (South East of Melbourne) where the other fires are. I have been extremely lucky to date, with no losses, however some of my friends, family and many others, have not been so.
I heard on the radio this morning (our local T.V relay station has been buggered by the fire) that there are extra, fire strike teams being sent from N.Z and the U.S.A, to lend our blokes a hand and it really is appreciated. (Be as proud of your "firies" as we are of ours....they are true heroes.)

Thank you to the other members, for your kind thoughts and words of support.

Hi Paul.
You guys are really getting slammed around. To be honest, after the major fires that Victoria went through only a couple of years back, I wouldn't have thought it possible that there'd be enough fuel on the ground to cause so much devastation. If memory serves me correct, a third of the state was burned out then. An area probably big enough to be greater than most European countries.
I had to ride my bike slowly home from work today as we've had fairly thick smoke drift into town this afternoon. I've got a bit of Asama and visibility is down to 2kms. I don't know where the smoke has come from.
I had another forum member connect me quite some time back and if memory serves me correctly, he's close to the Bendigo fire. I hope he is alright.
Good luck mate.:ausflag:

G day , almost two hundred dead so far in the fire storm. Delebratly lit in some arears.Gotta wounder what these poeple are going to do with 25years in lock-up, if caught.
Here in north Queensland we are under water and crocks are everywhere, a lad was taken yesterday and a man is missing near Ingham. No milk or flour and meat is in short supply due to the hi-way being cut in manny places over 500klms . Good old aus one bit under water the other burnt to a crisp.
Red cross will take your donations , near 20mil so far.
All the best and stay Safe.

One of my mates lost his house, and everything else, in Marysville - it is a town of only 500 people and almost 100 of them are now deceased! I have heard that there is only one house left there now. Another friend, who lives near Bendigo, is OK, but almost 50 houses all around him have been destroyed. My son is a fire fighter and fire investigator. On Sunday he investigated a fire and, following his investigation, the Police arrest one young firebug for arson. The boy was only 15. The fire he started did not harm anyone and caused no property loss, so that was fortunate. Please pray for the fire fighters and all who have suffered loss.

Hi Doctor11.
What you guys are going through is serious in it's own right. It seems because of the fires, you've almost been forgotten about. I sure hope that there is enough help heading your way.
If only we could move the excess water you have and send it down to Victoria.
My wife and I were just discussing the fire bugs. The bottom line is, even if caught, they'll never see the inside of a prism due to the fact that they are not normal people. They are usually simple minded people that have a fascination for fire and have no capacity to understand the consequences of their actions. I mean that in a quite literal sense, due to them being mentally challenged. BTW I'm not trying to defend their actions; just calling it like it is.
Good luck with the flood waters. It's a most unpleasant business.

This is what they were facing in 47 degree C heat.

I'm a couple of hundred kilometres away but know people that have lost family members and property..
Very hard to understand how someone could do this deliberately
