Titanium

Hi all, a friend lost his Fiance' Titanium ring with diamonds.(Dont go there!) I am thinking of buying the Aquaman or Treasure hunter Aquavision just so I can find this thing for him. 1) I need to find out if an underwater metal detector can identify Titanium, 2) Will a cheapy detector be worth getting?

How deep in the water would this ring be ?
Knee deep is about all you'd be able to detect with a land detector. So the ACE 250 could work .
Any deeper than that you'll have to use the water proof detector which run new about $600 plus
The Garrett Mark II likelly could do the job.
I'm thinking It could ID in the Iron to silver range as a target.
That means you'd find lots of target to dig,
Perhaps some one else would have more info that they could share.
This is a Garrett forum so I won't mention other brands,:garrett:

Well, the ring is about 10-12ft down, I,ve gone down to have a look if its on the surface, but its pretty silty mud-like sand. I think my only hope is to use a metal detector! Have you found Titanium things with your underwater detector?

There are some number of posts here where someone's found a titanium ring, I'd say any detector from a major brand should be ok, Minelab, White's, Garrett, Fisher, Tesoro... I advise you to do a search on this forum.

(titanium) Don't go there? Sure, titanium ain't shiny, but I thought it's very expensive?

For the life of me I can't remember where it falls in the scale of detection??? I don't think it's magnetic ? ? ? This is actually a good thing to talk about while in snowland. I might learn something!

If all you want to do is find this one ring then don't buy a detector. Renting a detector from a local dealer might be a good idea if it were on dry ground. In the water hunting requires specialized equipment and experience. To answer your question all detectors will detect titanium. The cheap under water detectors that you can buy on ebay are junk stay away from them. By the way titanium is a cheap material and I suspect few have high quality diamonds. Under those circumstances I would ask if someone on the forum lives nearby and is interested in recovering the ring for a fee. That person is not me. Best to you, Mike.

You will be busy. The titanium conductivity shows up as the same conductivity as a nickel. Pull tabs also show up as a nickel. There are lots of pulltabs scattered around, especialy in the water. The best thing to do is borrow, buy, rent a detector where you can eliminate the notches for iron, silver and copper. Lots of work, but it can be done! Good luck.....hope you find it.

first off cheep detectors a big  second 10-12 foot of water is almost dive time, do you have diving gear ?? most water hunters detect in 0 to 5 foot of water & it takes a lot of time to find & dig an item outta the water also you need a sand scoop. Mikes given good advice  find someone who does water detecting that dives to help out. if your interested in water hunting do a bit of research on & buy top end water detectors as the rest aren't up to the job.

Low- mid range on the disc. Good odds to find one if it hits as a nickel! Somebody needs to make a scale showing all the metals/ coins, I looked online but could not find one. Go :garrett:
