Titanium Hip Replacement???

Found this today while dirt fishing. My first thought was titanium replacement for a hip. But not sure.

Anyone have any ideas on what this is?

My worry is if it IS a replacement hip, where did it come from? How did it get up on the side of a hill near a pile of trash?

Luckily, not attached to anything when I found it. That would have ruined my day...
 
I think there are serial numbers and other info on hip parts.
 
There are Serial#.s on every medical device, so if its recalled they know who has it. If there are#.s on I would contact the police, they can find out who had it , Grubstake
 
I thought about the serial numbers, and have looked it over and see none.

Still stumped on what this thing is...
 
According to my Surgical Nurse who also my private duty nurse (53 years and counting) it is an old style hip replacement. She has one like it here at home. If They get contaminated then they can not be used. Neat find.

I was pretty sure that this was a hip. I have just never seen one in the flesh (or out of the flesh).

Still...concerned about how it got where I found it.....

Kind of a gory guess here, but, maybe it was from someone's cremated remains and got thrown out with the trash.
 
I have been using the "Hippy" joke since I found it. You know, reach into my pocket and say "I feel a bit hippy today!"

And I have thought it would make a great shifter (and actually looks a LOT like the one in your picture.

I only hope it was thrown out with remains, or as trash, and wasn't attached to anyone when it first ended up in the woods!
