Titan 3000/Garrett 250

How would you all compare the Titan 3000 and the Garrett 250. Is the Titan worth the difference in money? I have heard so much good about the Garrett that I am really leaning in that direction. And, being completely new to detecting, I was wondering which one of the two machines would be more "user friendly"

Thanks - Tuf

Haven't used the Titan or heard much about it. Some of Kellyco's detectors are made in China. But you can't go wrong with a 250. All you have to do is read the hundreds of reports from happy users, and it is Garrett's top selling detector and has been for many months - and for good reason.

I don't like putting other machines down, however on this Garrett forum, you will find post after post after post praising the ACE 250 for simplicity, lightness, excellent customer service/warranty and finding as many coins as machines costing 2-3X as much. This machine has been out well over a year and the compliments just keep on coming. For the price, you can't find a better machine! And that's not hype.

1. The Titan 3000 is just a Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300.
Look here:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2104700&cp=2032062.2032397&parentPage=family

Radio Shack charges 299$ for it and Kellyco takes 399 $ for basicly the same detector. (That would be the first reason NOT to buy from them).

What i read on the Discovery 3300/ Titan 3000 sounds good.
I haven't used the Titan but the price is 400 $.
And 400 $ would buy you TWO Ace 250 or one Ace 250 and the two extra coils (4.5 sniper and 9x12) for 360 $.
The Titan uses two 9 Volt batteries and it is hard to find a cheap charger for it. For the Ace you can get a charger with 4 AAs for 10 $ at walmart and that will keep detecting cost very low. Buying 9 volt batteries for the Titan can add up fast to a few hundred bucks in a year.
If you read this forum i think i don't have to say anymore how well this Ace 250 works. John, Bill, David and most others who post here are not new to detecting and all love this "Yeller Feller".

Andy

I dont know anything about the Titan, but, if Andy says it is just a rehashed BH at twice the price of an Ace 250, that's good enough for me. That would make the purchase decision easy - NO. Without going into it, I don't want a BH. The fact that it comes from K-CO, only makes it worse (IMHO). I simply won't deal with them.

I think detectors made by the "Big 4" are currently the only way to go for the most of us. But, I seem to benchmark all of the ones I come into contact with more and more against the little Ace 250.

Is it the best on the market? No. In fact, it can be a little hard to cope with at first - it's sort of noisy and quirky, especially in a trashy environment.

But, you might have guessed where I'm about to go:

For $200, I dont think it can be beat, new or used. It's depth capacity and the option of notch DISC that actually works is worth the price alone. Not to mention it's sensitivity to small objects and it's light weight and its ease of use and it's resale value should you NOT take to it and it's...well, you get the idea.

This time I recommend you succumb to the hype, get one and learn to use it. You'll like it.
