I recently got a Fisher F5 (Love it!). Kellyco had a BOGO sale going so I got the Titan 2000 xd with a 8 inch coil along with it. From what I understand this is made by the same people that make bounty hunter. This week I took out the Titan and got serious with it. Between yesterday and today (2 1/2 hrs hunting an old playground park) I found 19 coins and 1 token. This little machine rocks and I really like it!! It's fun!! I can't wait to see what it can do with relics.
The Titan 2000 xd is pretty much the same machine as the Elite 2200 and the Discovery 2200 I believe. I have to agree that as far as I can see, these unites deliver a heck of a bang for the buck.
I was reading about that Mark. I believe they are all pretty much the same units too. I'm finding for the money they are going to be hard to beat! They discriminate well and go pretty deep too. Of course I dug the occasional beer can but they are all going to find them. Other than that it tunes out trash pretty well. I'm going be having this machine right out there with my F5 from now on as a backup and because it's just plain alot of fun!
To avoid those aluminum cans that show up as dollars on the far right side of the display, I lift the coil about 6"-8" above the surface of the ground as I swing after getting such an indication. If I still get a strong dollar indication, I know that something larger than a dollar resides below and pass it by. It will invariably be a can or other piece of junk or a cash of coins. Cash of coins? Well, not likely in a picnic area or in a play field.
I was detecting a sports field which I frequently go to and got one of those big signals which indicated "can" to me. I started to leave it in the ground but decided to get it out of the ground so it wouldn't annoy me on future visits to this field. I was very surprised to pop a 1976 Eisenhauer dollar coin out of the ground. I would have sworn it would have been part of a smashed soda can due to the large signal and the fact that this field is littered with buried cans and can slaw. I have dug several Susan B Anthonys and more modern "golden" dollar coins and they didn't give near the signal that the Eisenhauer did.
Mark is right though when he says that invariably it will be a can or large piece of trash. If you're into collecting Hot Wheels, they sometimes register in the quarter to dollar area and give off a really big signal as well.
You just never know until you bring it out into the light of day.........
Great finds Wasp!! I think I'm gonna be digging those big signals too. I love my fisher F5 but I find I'm having a blast with this Titan also. I was thinking about selling it. Now I'm gonna keep it. For the money I'm finding it's a really good machine. I'm going relic hunting tomorrow and I'm gonna break out the Titan to see how it does on relics. I tried it out in my yard with some Civil War bullets and it picked them up well as long as I notch out zinc. When I notched out zinc it lost them.
My brother has a Discovery 2000 from Radio Shack and really likes it. He was pleased to have found a V nickel last year, I think it was a 1905 if my memory is correct. He just happened to be relic hunting at the site of a long gone farm house at the time.
Good luck on your relic hunt! Let us know what you find.
I got a Titan as a Bogo as well. My only complaint is that sometimes targets deeper than 5" read sometimes as Iron. I wonder why that happens. Does yours not do it?
I have noticed it is off on the depth some too. I haven't paid a lot of attention to the iron reading yet. It's deer hunting season now so I haven't been getting out as much. A friend of mine just got us permission to hunt a couple of prime old house spots. I will keep in mind about the iron and let you know what happens. So far though as far as coins go, I love the titan. I have used it at a couple old parks and church sites. I'm looking forward to see what happens at an old house spot.
