hand full of clad and 4 or 5 whatsits thanks gmanlight

Yup I keep telling myself that the Silver uMax is not any good, but each time I use it - it make a liar out of me. I love my Silver uMax! Steve.

Yes the Silver is quite a little hunter.

No complaints when I use it.

It can do more than it would seem that it can.

Lots of fun.

HH,

I got mine back in march and have found a lot of clad still trying to find places to go.

Congrats on all the finds! I will be honest I came this () close to buying one. I still may, Beale.

Yeah! Silver umax rocks! When my arm collapsed from using a heavy metal detector for 6 hrs.,it was a life saver. AND, try this: Find the mark or your disc. knob where pulltabs (not those that fall in the nickel range) break up. You may have to experiment and try to find an average setting for the majority of them. Now, carefully mark this spot on your dial. Now, hunt in the standard bottlecap mode(just below nickels) and when you get a signal rotate the knob to this mark. If the signal disappears,it's in the nickel range; if it breaks up, it's in the pulltab range; and if it still gives a good signal, it's in the coin range. You only have to move the knob ONCE in each direction to have your own Silver notch detector! Admittedly it's not quite as accurate as a regular detector-but it's close!

they are small compared to just about everything else on the market. I had pretty much the same reaction as you the first time I saw one. Looks can be deceiving! Glad to hear you are enjoying it.

Yea man..The tesoro is what I settled with for the ground,(dirt) hunts. It is what I started with in the beginning and I tried others that were good too , but as far as the signal strenth and ease of use the tesoro was a definete winner.
It seems kind of weird a light weight ...allmost toy looking detector can perform so very well.
They obviously have detector making nailed down.
Good Luck out there.

I can fully understand how you felt when you opened that box Gman!

Now you will be amazed that they just kinda do what they are supposed to do.

Tesoro = treasure.

...and next thing that will happen is you will run across other fellows, from time to time, who have very expensive machines with all kinds of programs and impressive hefty control boxes with knobs, switches, and buttons who feel they are so superior with the whizbang machine and you can actually do about 90% of what they can do in a quicker time, in much more comfort.

I always tell them what a nice machine they have and that I hope to have one, some day.

so i guess you like it?..i got one for my daughter!..you are right when i first saw it,i thought it was a toy!..first time out daughter who NEVER detected before "hits" a 1902 barber dime in uncanny condition!..detector found a home after that!..great little 'tector!

I run mine with the disc. at the iron setting. Steve.

During the Winter I was detecting the park down the road a lot.
A fella comes up to me & says he has a Whites DXF and he
and his friends have hunted this area out with Fishers, Minlabs
and Whites and of coarse BH's. He said there is nothing left
except a little clad. He visited a couple of times.

I did not tell him that I had just pulled a 1/5 ct diamond ring out
of there. I just opted to tell him I was doing alright. I could tell he
kind of thought I was a detector degenerate because of the funky
looking Silver I was sporting.

One day he showed up with his DXF. He had a small coil and
proceeded to hunt with me. I got a signal on a clad penny. I asked
him to check it. I told him it was a clad signal, not a copper penny.

He said he got clad penny read-out. I got a signal on a nickel and
asked him to check it. He just dug it up and it was a nickle. He
looked a little surprised this time.

He then got a signal and asked me to check it and I got a pull tap
response, and told him that. He said " would you dig it? ". I said
yes probably, I'm afraid of missing something.

Then I recovered a nice golden swimmers pendant. He said " let
see that " . He checked it with his DXF and said " I wouldn't have
dug that! " . I just smiled.

The next time I came out there, there were holes all over the place.

Some of them were not even covered up. Have not seen him sense.

I had to carry dirt to the holes because it rained and there wasn't
enough dirt to cover his holes.

HH,

Oh yeah! I hunt most of the time with the disc turned all the way down. I love the tot lots and schools w/chips and gravel lots. HOWEVER, if the time ever came that I hunted a trashy site w/lots of tabs I can always have my own notch detector-and some of the tabs that have deteriorated will give the famous Tesoro break-up at bottlecap setting. AND, the pinpointing is sooo easy with the fast response. I call it X-axis pinpointing. Most people make TWO sweeps, one along right to left(X axis),the other up and down(Y axis) and where the two lines cross is the center of the target. I,however, only use the X axis(right to left). It takes about 1-3 sweeps to find an X-axis line with the strongest signal. NOW, whenever the beep comes my eyes freeze on a spot on the ground where the center of the coil was when the beep occurred. Tesoro's response is so fast and believe it or not you can actually do this while the coil is moving! And you can't imagine what this does for sponsored hunts where time is of the essence. I've actually gotten to the point that a lot of times I can actually pinpoint on the return sweep! If you were to hold your detector in front of you and imagine trying to do this, you would say it is impossible-but when the sound in the speaker comes, our Creator gave us this miraculous response and ability. You, of course, have to slow the sweep down at first until you get used to it.

From the original post I gather you liked it. That whole thing was a little confusing.
But like all Tesoros, the trick is to use it for awhile. It doesnt have a rich suite of ID information or any fancy doodads. It ISNT deeper than a backhoe and it isnt magic, contrary to popular opinion. Bottom line is, It still depends on where you take it and whether you bend down to dig or not.
It is lightweight and very easy to use, so youll take it where you might leave others behind. It tells you where there is metal present and gives a pretty good idea of what it is. After that, it is up to you.

Sorry about my run of words thats probably why i make a living with my hands and not a pen and paper.
The base of the post was to thank many of those on this forum for speaking highly of the silver u
All i said was fun and easy . I cant afford a backhoe and dont do any magic tricks
