Tips For Finding Gold

I am very pleased with my MXT Pro and the many old finds that have come my way in a very short time. However, although I have found Indian heads, wheat's, Barber dimes , nickels, large copper, including three 1700 coins and four silver rings (since the third week in March) I have not found any gold.

I do not dig all signals and that is the reason. My question is..... Are there any tips (other then digging ALL signals) that I can use to find that gold with this great machine ?

I'm definitely no expert on finding gold but I'd say with the quality of finds you've already made you're obviously doing something right. If you're getting nickels the gold will come (lot less gold than nickels unfortunately). Personally, I'd be more than happy making the finds you are until it does. If I pulled an 18th century coin around here they'd probably have to resuscitate me ! JMHO

Sounds like you're doing pretty darn good to me! Yes, dig those nickles! Yes, dig more trash! Take note of those VDI #'s for those trash targets & eventually you'll see patterns. When numbers appear outside of those usual trash #'s DIG! Small women's engagement rings, sometimes adorned with big stones will fall in the foil range. Irritating I know but you gotta dig a lot of foil to find small DIAMOND rings! There's no magic formula! :pulltab:

With Finds like those ...Who needs Gold...
Keep an eye on those repeatable low VDI signals, that's where the gold lies.

I have found that the majority of my gold rings fall in this range. There is a lot of trash in this range, but finding gold is well worth it. There is definitely gold to be found between VDI 22 through say 45-50, but I find there is even more trash in this range, especially pull tabs, so I concentrate on the lower VDI's. It seems the gold to trash ratio is little better. Also, try to find areas where gold is more likely to have been lost. Places like swimming areas (beaches, community pools, with permission, etc), sports fields and picnic areas are all good places to try. They have all been good to me. Hope this helps some. HH

And yes, you are doing very well...theres a section on the CZ forum about midtone signals that helped me out tremendously this spring...I think reading these posts, and getting inspired, and picking the secrets from the stories posted will lead you to success in the gold ring department. HH

"Thanks", to those that took the time to reply. Some very good suggestions that I will watch for from now on.
