Tip for the day - Easy, economical way to tumble coins...

Instead of aquarium gravel use a small handful of steel BB's. They are clean, last forever, and make the coins shiny as a mirror.

They're actually known as steel shot, and come in various sizes including "BB". They're used in areas that don't allow lead shot, for environmental reasons. Regular BB's for airguns are steel also, but copper plated, so they may discolor whatever you're using them on.

Just run the steel airgun B-Bs' through the tumbler with the gravel. That <img src="/metal/html/nono.gif" border=0 width=22 height=19 alt=":nono"> will knock off the copper. Then they are a-go for the coins.

The copper coating is super thin and comes off right away and does not discolor.

I ran my first load thru with the copper on and the coins came out nice and shiny. The copper is just a micro thin coating.

That explains it. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

Bill what should we use as far as a cleaning solution with the BB's? dishsoap, softscrub,ECT???
thanks
Steve

I use a concentrated cleaner that I get at Costco or you can use TSP, 409, or whatever.. I also throw in a piece of steel wool or a half of a Brillo pad.
