Tip for 250 with standard coil that I forgot about..

You may be missing a lot of dimes thinking they are junk signals. If you come across a signal you don't like, it's a broken signal, doesn't repeat, and the ID dances around, chances are it's a corroded dime, or one slanted or on edge. When you get a signal like this don't dismiss it as junk.

Hold the coil over the target and twitch the coil back and forth just an inch or so each way. If it's one of those dimes you will get a belltone. Posted in the pic are several such dimes I picked up this evening by twitching. Had I paid attention to the original signal they would still be in the ground. You'll find a lot of these where other swingers have been and dismissed them as junk.

Also, I have discovered that if the cursor bounces all over the place as well as the depth meter, the target may be right on the surface rather than deeper. JIM

Great info, you guys.

I just know I've been missing some good targets; your tips will really help.

You can raise the coil about 6 inches to a foot, and it will even out if it is on the surface

I took my 250 to the local beach yesterday. Not a could in the sky... Beautiful... With the standard coil I got a quick blip amd it was too fast to see on the screen. It didn't repeat until I rested the coil on the ground and tried again. Another blip and again, not repeatable. I tried swinging it as fast as I could and got it to repeat every time, as a dime. As Uncle Willy said it was carroded. Down about 8 inches. I tried the fast swing at times thru out the day and picked up some other clads that were fairly deep. Picked up some silver there the other day. A 1912 Barber and 1945 Rosey. So, try swinging fast, or as fast as the old body will allow.
