Tiny silver find with picture.

I was hunting an 1880's homesite that the family has been hitting hard recently, it was my first attempt. There is a legend that a gold ring was lost there, so far we have been unable to find it. After searching for a while I got a nice solid ID and I thought sure it was a penny. I dug and turned over the sod and out pops this little ring. It appears to be silver, yet it is not marked with the typical .925. It was tarnished black in a few spots and it polished like silver too. You can see where the ring was soldered together if you look from the inside. The diameter is very small, .48" inside diameter and it is very detailed on the outside.

As near as we can guess, we think it may be a turn of the century silver ring and maybe they didn't mark them .925 back then? Has anyone seen one like this or have any input? Regardless, I'll take a find like this any day!

Congrat's on the nice lil find.

I have heard that in the 1880's and early 1900's that some gold and silver rings did not have any markings so your ring could very well be silver.

Nice recovery. It does look like silver. Could you let us know what the TID is? That could help us determine whether or not it is silver (or maybe white gold). HH Randy

Nice little ring . I bet the number would have been lower than normal, i have found small silver rings at depth with the Terra and the ET at lower tones and numbers in the last few months.

I do recall that I thought that I had a penny which translated to 28-32, it was lower than a typical 38-40ish silver. It was a good strong solid target, I was sure that it was a coin until I rolled over the clump of sod. I put it under a loop and I'm positive that it's not plated and the tarnish leads me to believe that it's silver.

Out of curiousity, what does it air test?
Things change when the ground minerals aren't included in the equation.
