Tiny mushrooms

On a Sunday outing, I spotted these wee fungi amidst last year's fallen leaves and rotting trees. They were only 1-2 inches tall!! I am frustrated with these macros -- my camera seems to focus sharply (well, reasonably) on the background, yet not the subject. I use an Olympus Camedia C-2020 -- I cannot manually focus (that I am aware of) and have to surrender to the whims of a digital eye. We are not in agreement!! What sort of adjustments may help here?? I just can't get as close as I wish to -- do I need a $5,000 camera??

How kan them raskals be 2 inches tall, when the photo is 6 inches tall?
anyway, it shows you have a keen eye for a good shot..... <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

I took a bunch of them last fall as the woods are full of them at that time.
With the 2020 I think you have an option of Spot focus or something like that. When it is in spot focus you will have an "X" in the middle of the veiwfinder. That is the spot it focuses on. Use that for the closeups. Make sure you have the little flower icon showing too. That means you are in macro.
You sure don't need a 5000 dollar camera. Just gotta do like I am trying to do. Read the book that comes with the camera and take a bunch of pictures.
You can get the manual on line and print it out full page and it is a lot easier to read.
Nice pictures
