Second hunt with the 800 I got a nice strong hit on this tiny earring 12 inches down in the dry sand ,,,13 Id.... Amazing depth , Beach 2 setting . Loving the Nox
I had the exact same experience with an earring back. It was 10-12" down in dry sand, took me forever to find it as the holes in my sand scoop allowed it to fall through. I was blown away with the solid tone I got from such a small target and so deep, I was using Beach 1. Happy hunting!
Do you think that may have happened - it fell through the scoop holes and wasn't really that deep to begin with?
Otherwise either my detector's crap or my beaches are extremely clean.
Try an air test with it same setup. I bet it becomes flakey at around 11" at best.
I have dug many solid 12 thru 17 signals that were BB size lead or copper shards at 6 to maybe 8 inches but in damp salt sand. Not saying this is the case but there are those who have had problems pin pointing and maybe this target was off to the side a bit in dry sand and worked itself to the bottom. Just saying. Beach 2 in dry sand? With reduced power that makes it even more of a stretch with a target this size. You should try Beach 1 or maybe even field 2 or one of the higher single frequencies. Play around with it. I wasted many hours at first scraping the damp sand around looking for those tiny shards of brass and copper only to learn later, if it's a ring bam, there it is, a necklace same thing. A stud ear ring shows up fast also. Ear ring backs are worthless to me so if I don't see the target right away I have learned for me at least it is best to move on and let it lay. Good luck to everybody with the new Equinox.

Anything is possible but pretty sure it was the 4th scoop of sand that the signal was gone from the hole then started scanning the pile and that is when it was on the top and kept falling through. I have dug many targets at 10-12" in the dry sand, especially around the fire pit rings, My deepest targets at 15" or more have been buried beer cans, I really wish people would just throw the cans away. I dig everything at the beach as it's so easy and even though I'm good at guessing the clad the rest is all a mystery until it's in the scoop.
Valid question Rick...... im thinking copper based metal. I dig a lot of those tiny earrings in or near the water that are deep..... most are plated copper.
