TINY 3 cent silver

got out to an old house site ( sitll occupied). Found a large cent but can't make out any date. A 1875 IH in ok dark green condition. A small Crotal bell, smallest I've ever seen. A war nickel. A couple of buttons. 1902 Barber dime and the 1856 3 cent silver. I guess i've never seen one in person so when i dug it I didn't know what it was at first.I just knew not to rub it but I sill see scratches on it... drat!!! Still one that I never really thought i'd find. It came in around 67 in 12K. It was still in the grass roots so it was only down two inches at best. Quite the day. Days like that don't come around too often for sure.

I just got my first one last year. I know I was thrilled. Lots of near misses on signals had me thinking I was going to find one. Yours is really pretty nice, thanks for sharing.

That is a killer hunt--congrats! I hope you get back there again and go over it again and again from different angles and frequencies....

Jealous in Nebraska!

thats awesome! what area of the country are you? I'm guessing eastern side... Not much was going on in the mid-west around that time that I don't think i'll ever see one of those! Also care to share your program info, just for curiosity sake.

Greg: I'm in western new York. Most villages around here were settled in the 1830 's or so. This full out... was the "west" for a time.. lol...
I have been fighting with my Deus a lot lately. I want to run wide open, full power, no discrim, tx3, 0 reactivity, full tones, BUT.... too many sounds for me to hear good signals so I keep lowering settings to get good results. I just can't seem to 3 or 4 or 5 tones... yet. Still stuck on full tones but I think 5 tones would be better. Anyway, here is what I've been doing lately.
Freq..12k
Tx 3
Discrim... 2 to 6 depending on how bad the iron is
Sens.. 90 but I push it to 93 if I can
Iron level... 0
Reactivity... 1 or 2
Audio response... 4 I have hearing aids so I need a little more volume... it makes deeper targets sound quieter
Notch. 97 to 99. And this is where I've been getting better results... I increase notch to 30 or even 40. This cuts down on chatter and I can still hear nickels on up

I use these settings in old house yards where there isn't a lot of tabs or bottle caps...
This machine is so powerful that I can't run it full out unless I'm in a very clear area... ha ha... where is that?

I can vouch for Western Iowa having had at least one 1857 3-cent silver in the ground--not 10 feet away from me my buddy found one several years ago. :clapping:

Awesome thanks for sharing! I've just been running the Gary "hot" program ... Im pretty new to the deus so always curious to see what others are runnig program wise!

I dug an older school this morning (central IL) and found my oldest coin yet.... 1882 indian head penny... It was about 8" deep, about 6" right below some trash.... So i heard "something" that sounded complex... So i dug :)

the cold program is good too it calms the audio down you have to watch for the faint deep signals a little more.

Congrats on the great finds !

That's one mighty-fine hunt! Congrats on the elusive 3-cent piece and the other awesome coins! I'd stay at that place and hunt it into oblivion if possible....:detecting:
