tin token question

Moe (FL)

New member
Found a thin tin token today at an old park. The token has a small hole and is the size of a nickel. One side is almost clean but the other side has some rust. There is some writing on that side. What is the best way to remove the rust?

My MXT's VDI reading was jumping from 77 to 92 (through silver range).

Happy Hunting!

I don't know much about the "tin" tokens. Normally I wouldn't take a brush to tokens, but if the token is aluminum, you could use a brass brush to clean it. I was told by a collector that this was the best way to clean that type of token. I've done it many times and it does work. Just don't scrub it too hard. Most aluminum tokens aren't worth much but it's nice to see what type and from where it came from. IMHO Hopefully others might know something more.
