Recently bought a used time ranger and thought it took 9v batteries, come to fine out it takes 2 C batteries, wondering if this is an older unit and is there any difference in the units that take different size batteries. Thanks for reading

The Time Ranger has gone through numerous revisions. The early ones were dual 9-volt. They went to a dual-C setup around 2003 for a few years, then went back to a dual-9 and made other changes.

Between my early 2001 version and your dual-C, it may be close to a toss-up, but there are apparently some minor differences. I guess the newest one has a new motion all-metal mode that some say is pretty hot.

I sure enjoy mine. It's easy to get well-acquanited with so it becomes second-nature to operate. Everything's always there on the main screen, no menus to page through.

Check out my page on it: http://www.whiteriverprep.com/vintage/timeranger/timeranger.html

Do a search here on Findmall for the Time Ranger. This topic has come up and I and others have replied with some more in-depth info.

Here's a couple old threads about it:
