Time Ranger vs Tracker IV

I'm still trying to decide which metal detector I should get for my son for Christmas. I'm now stuck between the Time Ranger or the Tracker IV. Does anybody have any advice on which would be best for a beginner.

For the price of 149.00 for a time ranger on radio shacks site as a close out item, for that money i dont know if youi can beat that for such a nice detector for that kind of money..Good luck with what ever you end up buying....Markmac

My advice is to stay away from knobs and go solid state. Its newer technology, less prone to damage and more water proof.

With out any doubt get the Time Ranger. It might seem overwhelming at first, but it won't take long until any users are up to speed on it. If nothing else, just use its presets and sneak up on the more advanced settings over time as curiosity demands.
