So if you are familiar with the BH time ranger, and you want to search for gold jewelry only. do you just put it on p 4 an dig every sound?
Or is it possible to discriminate some trash an just a tone on gold?

Those looking for gold jewelry only do you ever search a plot for just gold, then go back over it in another mode an look for coins?

Please be patient with my in experience hoping to read an re read an learn through this forum.

curios why the forum format makes me have to open each response seems time wasted, just an observation

P4 is an all-metal mode. Digging all signals will find gold but also nails and trash.

P1 mode rejects iron and there is an ID which may help. Gold jewelry varies widely in purity and shape, the ID may cover a broad range of numbers. Test any gold you may already have to see how it reads.

I don't often hunt where jewelry might be found, but I am looking for gold where the old mines were. I dig most any interesting signal, but avoid nails and junk if possible.

I like to use the Time Ranger in Programable mode and set it to accept all targets, i.e., no rejection. I listen for the tones and check ID before deciding to dig or not. Experience and much practice using test targets help to learn what the detector is telling you.

Some people "cherry pick" for just jewelry or some specific item like old bullets or silver coins. I don't get out often enough to look for just one type of find. I may never get back to the same spot to check for whatever else might be buried there. Plus, you need the experience of what you're seeking is supposed to sound like to hunt for just that. Chances are with jewelry you'd be passing up good finds because they didn't have the specific ID you narrowed your search down to.
