Time Ranger question

New Time Ranger arrived this week, today was my first day out with it. Swung the coil about 3 hours, last hour I was feeling pretty comfortable with it and was finding coins about like I do with the 202. Have been detecting seriously the last 5 years, did it as a pre-teen a long time ago when dinasours roamed the earth. My question is about the numeric target I.D. In the manual it gives a print out from 1 - 165 and identifies the typical metals commonly encountered during a hunt. My question is; what does it mean when I get a numberic reading from 165 - 285 or however high it goes? Just not sure what the higher numbers mean. Have I discovered some alien metal scraps or is it some mysterious metal common to Area 51 in Roswell, New Mexico? Any TR users that could shed some light on this would be much appreciated. Thank you,

I don't have a TR but generally the out of range numbers occur when the target is too deep for the ID system to give a proper ID. These higher numbers can also be the result from iron falses.

It could also be a VERY large Iron object at shallow depth giving the detector an overload condition....I have never used a machine with the numerical ID...(I so want one though).
only true way to tell, is dig it...

HH,

would have to agree with Mr. Landstar. Only times I see numbers like that are large iron or really twisted up cans, etc. That said I have only had my TR for a very short time.

I had to open my mouth. I replied to your post and fired my TR up out near my companies offices and the second target read 284 Deep Target. It turned out to be a zinc penny [what was left of one]. So I learned something new and remembered [yet again] I know nothing. HH

Its got to be the soil here in the valley. I keep talking to the local detectorists and we all share similar depths for finds. This comss for the most part from the 'Whites' boys [Sweethome is just up the road from here]. Anyway the swampy soil is both bad and bad as far as Iam concerned. Those deep hits are often times junk or more half dead zinc cents...everything sinks in the swamp. I can not wait to get out of this valley and detect on solid ground.
