Time Ranger -First Finds

RickyJ

New member
I received my new Time Ranger this past friday 10/9/09. I wasnt able to get out then due to the rain so I played around with it in the house with some test coins and a small gold nugget.Everything looks to be operating as should be but may take some tiime getting familiar with all the settings. On saturday 10/10/09 I was up early an headed out to the old homestead where on tuesday the movers had just hauled the old house off to another location to be restored.I took the advice from was wasp a member of this forum and hunted in the all metal mode ,I had hits everywhere and sure that a lot of the signals were trash. I marked each target with red flags the ones the utility companies use to mark underground lines without digging any of the targets and then worked through the modes using different colored flags until finally at the P1 program and I then marked with blue flags due to these having id.Bountyhunter1972/wasp were right in that there would be alot of trash( a garbage can full)My take for the day after about 5 hours is as follows.
1. Six Rogers bros silver plated spoons found under where the front porch was located, they were approx 3" deep.Several marbles were also found while digging the spoons.
2. Two square head nails at approx: 9" deep.
3. One Broad head Hatchet at 4" deep.
4. One ladies ring with setting, looks to be goldplated at 4" deep.pt/nickle range
5. One small metal carpenters square at 8" deep.
6. One 1926 Indian head nickle decent condition at 6" deep. sounded in the pt range.
7. One 1942 quarter slightly warn at 6" deep. id right on.
8. One 1919 penny legible at 4" deep. id right on.
9. One silver coin unsure of badly worn ,showed deep target found at 11"deep. id as quarter.
10 One 1906 Indian head cent at 5" deep. id as penny.
11.One Missouri tax token ,has a 1 on it no date .showed quarter and a deep signal found at 14" deep.
12. One 1955 dime at 4" deep . id right on.
13. One Houston Transit adult bus token at 4" deep .id as penny
14.One Lenoards Brothers 1/2 cent token at 4" deep. id as penny.
All the coin except the Indian head penny were found in the front yard near are under the porch. The indian head penny was found by the walkway next to the driveway. The hatchet was found in the backyard near and old storage shed.I also found a box with old calendars from the 40's along with other paper items, postcards ,maps etc.I have pictures that I will be posting soon. Overall I have found the Bounty Hunter Time Ranger to be all that it is advertised to be and maybe even better. The target Id and depth were fairly acurate. The different tones i can see will come in handy after I work with the machine awhile It was certainly different than the old analog that I use to have and very entertaining with the dashboard screen.I only used the 8" search coil but will try the 4" on my next trip. I will be returning to the site on Tuesday to continue my search. They will be hauling dirt in after this coming weekend so i got to get in and finish up before its too late and then its off to find another site.

Ricky, sounds like you are off to a good start with your new Time Ranger. Not a bad haul for the first outing. Can't wait to hear what else you find at that old house.

Good luck and happy hunting!

On the two ,0ne a token and the other a quarter it showed deep target the depth meter was pegged out and the gauge on the bottom right was reading + for and accepted target. I measured each find that I dug so i could get and ideal of the accuracy of the T.R.I will continue to follow this routine until I become more familiar with these digital units. My old Compass XP Pro was an analog machine and did give a depth reading but not automatically like the T.R. does. Since this is my first digital I am considering myself a greenhorn until I get some experience behind the wheel.I left a lot of targets in the ground and will be going back tuesday and dig the rest of them ,probally at least 30 more flags in the ground and yes i am digging everything even though I have them flagged some with id and the majority as PT,BC and foil. and I am sure i will be digging more trash than treasure, but i need the training so I dont mind the extra work involved and this way I can evaluate the T.R more.
Thanks

Nice going Ricky ! Quite an impressive collection with your new Time Ranger
for the first time out. Would even be great for an experienced user I am thinking.
Digging coin sized targets at 11 and 14 inches says you really had your TR dialed
in. I like the way you listed the targets with what they were, what depth, and what
the meter I.D. said it was. That's some useful information right there.
Best of luck next time out. Sounds like you and your TR are going to be quite
the pair. Although I have never used a TR I had heard a lot of good things about
them. This is just one more such instance. There is no doubt that you are quite
pleased with the TR and with results like this who can blame you. All this in a
detector that's nice and easy to swing. Thanks for posting this Ricky.
I, for one, am impressed. Good hunting to you ! Gene

Here is a nice little tutorial on the Time Ranger if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the reply. The next time I hunt who knows what the ground holds in store for me, I know it depends alot on the mineralization and the next site I hunt may prove more difficult. I have exp in metal detecting just not with a digital machine and I do have decent contacts to find pretty good sites ,friends and family in east texas and and one relative along the Texas coast. never did any beach hunting but I will probally give it a shot. I am more interested in old homesteads for the variety of things that can be found such as relics and coins but will even give the totlots a try as suggested by bountyhunter1972.I look forward to all the hunts and to all the informative info on this forum. Thanks Again.
