time ranger at the beach

HI All,
Just got a used time ranger and have been playing around w/ it to get the feel. Today I took it to the beach (New Symera. FL) and tried various settings. When used in all metal mode it worked fine, on dry sand...My great find was a nail, various pieces of foil and a bottle cap!! The problem was went to wet sand...and a continuous signal....tried various setting as reducing the sensitivity but did not find anything....tried reducing the sensitivity and eliminating foil and or pull taps...still some hits but were false as the disappeared ....can anyone help to let me know what type of settings for wet salt water sand....you might say i got nailed on my first serious out ting. thanks and best wished

Salt water is a tough go for most all VLF detectors. You're on the right track with reducing sensitivity and raising the disc level. Try a smaller coil if you have one and also hunt with coil raised off the sand a few inches. Hunt parallel to the water line so the moisture level is more constant. Most people use a PI machine for salt, but some VLF machines have a "salt" setting, which skews the ground balance to help with the heavy mineralization. You may have to content yourself with hunting at low tide or further up on the beach.
