are all gold rings/jewelry stamped with the karat value? or some other stamp? I've found two identical rings that appear to be gold, but no markings...they are made from two possible gold wires that are twisted together and 'soldered' at two places.
I'll try to get some pics up for viewing.

Wire rings probably would not be karat marked. I mean where you gonna put it on a piece of wire?

There are requirements, both domestic and international, about purity markings, yes. But they are not always adhered to and often ignored in the case of spurious jewelry. However, in the majority of the cases youll encounter, nowadys, there will be a mark.
