Tight ABS Lower Pole On My Compadr

Hotwire

New member
I recently purchased a Compadre. I noticed that the lower black ABS pole fits extremely tight into the middle metal pole. I have to muscle/force the lower pole in & out of the middle pole in order to engage or seperate the two pieces. I emailed Tesoro & asked them if i could sand the ABS pole & they said yes. I tried using talcum powder as a dry lubricant. I also removed one of the "spring buttons" & this did not help either. Do any other compadre owners have a similar experience? Suggestions/recommendations?

Is the locking collar fully unlocked?

I love Tesoro detectors and that is the only complaint that I have about them. I could buy 100 of their detectors and 99 of them would have snug fitting lower rods (alittle too snug).

had the same promblem as you hotwire , I never sanded it just used some graphite to make it manageable and and over time it lossened up ok

I considered graphite but i hesitate because graphite is an electrical conductor & may affect the coil.

i got lucky with mine, she is nice and smooth :)

I notice this problem also on a recently purchased sand shark detector.
I also removed one spring clip and tried sanding the shaft, but it is still too tight my me.
I will probably try sanding it some more when I get a chance.

the small amount of graphite used on the lower rod didnt cause any probs on mine , come to think of it Ive got a feelin I did run some fine sandpaper over it was some time back ...its a pita either way ...ya'd rekon they'd get that sorted on the production line so we wouldnt havta piss fart around

I guess it could be worse, they could be very loose

I checked some other lower rods and noticed that the ones with two spring retainers seem to be tight and the others are not.
I did do some more sanding on the lower rod for my sand shark and it slides in very easily now.
I used some 100 grit sandpaper followed by 220 grit and then used a scotch pad to smooth out the finish.
I figured if it this tight now, how tight will it get after saltwater and sand get in this area... don't want it to seize up on me.

Hey Guys,

Check out the Plugger shaft locks, $12 shipped from Chuck at Indian Nation Sales:thumbup:

USE some dry slide lubricant spray works great goes on wet but leaves a dry lubricant

I don't thin the shaft locks are the problem, I think it has more to do with the lower rod made a hair too big manybe a thousandth or so, either that or the lower shaft isn't perfectly straight.
