Tigershark Question

Member
I'm thinking about buying one. Have heard tons of great stuff about them. The only negative thing I've heard is that it has internal adjustments and you have to take it apart to change the batteries. What kind of adjustments are internal and do you set it once and just leave it alone? Is changing the batteries a problem on this machine? I hunt fresh water with low minerals.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The Tiger shark is an excellent fresh water machine. Have used one for several years and while it may not have the depth of some other machines, in fresh water lakes the depth of objects doesnt vary from day to day like the ocean and great lakes beaches, so it has plenty of punch and after awhile your senses will tell you what is junk and what is gold - while it is not a tone machine, you after a while will actually be able to distinguish different tones for different targets - regardless at our beaches we dig everything as it is even hard to find a bobby pin any more unless it was lost the day before. The internal adjustments are volume and sensitivity and once set I leave them alone. I set the sensitivity on the ground as hot as I can get it without falsing - if it falses in the water Ill adjust it later. changing batteries is no problem as they seem to last forever - Usually change them once in a season just to be sure so I can do it at home instead of the lake. Warranty cant be beat. Have sold and used other machines but this is my favorite.

Batteries last a very long time, I only change mine about once every 3-4 months. And the internal settings, once you set them you will probably never have to change them, its not a problem. It is an excellant machine, I have had one since the day they introduced it.

Good to hear about the batteries. Does the belt mount work out okay? I'll be getting my Tiger Shark very soon, I think.

Once you GB the machine and switch to Disc, you rarely need to adjust anything so I just slide it around to my back side where it is out of the way. If I find a small pendant, I will turn the disc all the way down and scan the immediate area for the chain, or switch to all metal.

Outperforms all the others when it comes to sensitivity on smaller gold chains etc thanks to the 12 kHz Circuit, ALSO enjoyed by the Little Side Kick and my preferred rental for lost jewelry, THE COMPADRE which runs circles around the Aces and Prizms when it comes to Fast Filter Response and Gold Sensitivity.

PIs, like the Tesoro Sand Shark are quieter but lack the Discrimination and Sensitivity on Diamond Tennis Bracelets etc.

At Lake Tahoe, using the Tiger Shark, I located three rings including a Platinum Ring, along with a nice Thai Movement Armitron Watch all in one day.

The Rub: Lake Tahoe is Fresh Water but heavily mineralized-black sand. This caused a shift in the phase angle so Nail were a bit more difficult to reject at low Disc settings.

The WISH: Bring back the NON-Motion Filter TR Disc found on the older Stingray II.

Regarding Depth... competitive, depending on the ground conditions on coins. On Jewelry, well the 'Others' in many cases won't even detect certain jewelry items an inch away.

The Tiger Shark may not have the depth capability of some of the other machines but it is definitely more sensitive to small gold - I have other machines but it is my principal machine for fresh water.

I belt mount mine, the batteries arent an issue, they last a WHILE. The only time I have to adjust anything inside is when I am keeping my head dry, or going underwater. When going underwater you need to adjust the volume louder. Great machine!!!
