Will I be happy with a Tiger Shark? I am a first timer to detecting, live in Fort Myers FL. I will be using it mostly on the beach and in saltwater up to me knees and a little deeper. I also want to use it in parks and relic hunting. Is this the one to buy?
Looking for experienced help
Regards
Joe

Tiger Shark is a Great detector for freshwater... but leaves something to be desired in salt water... However... I hear that the Florida beaches are very forgiving... Perhaps some Florida folks can give an opinion.
You won't find a better detector for a freshwater inviroment. It will make a good land unit too... Except that it gets heavy.

I have a tiger shark. I keep having a problem where I have tone when I start out and it will react to hits but then it just stops reacting to any hits but I still have the tone. I was thinking that this was because the batteries were low but I'm not so sure. I sent it back to Tesoro and they said it checked out ok and they gave me a new coil but I still have the problem, especially underwater. It starts out ok and then after a while when you happen over an obvious bottle cap or something you notice that it didn't react. So far I'm disapointed with the Tiger Shark unless I can get this figured out. When it works, it does well. I got a nice 1899 penny last time out with it but then it quit on me again.

Have you look at the Eldorado yet, Alot less money and works great at the beaches <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">

Have you tried new Batteries? Have you tried Air tests when fresh and again after its been running for awhile?
If it still does it with new batteries... Sounds like it will need another trip to Tesoro. Perhaps a phone call to discuss it with a tech would be a good Idea.
I do know Tesoro will do everything they can to make youhappy and fix the problem.
Good Luck and keep us posted with what is found.

Thanks. I'll try the air tests. This is the first modern machine that I bought (used to do this back in the seventies and just took it up again) and I don't think I'm getting the life out of the batteries that I should be. Is having tone but no reaction to hits the common response to low batteries in the tiger shark? I realize this may be a stupid question but I'll risk it. What's puzzling is that when I restart the machine I will get the 5 to 7 beeps at the beginning that indicates that the batteries are ok and then I get the threshold tone as it should be. Just no reaction to targets.

Really like if for fresh water hunting...Killer unit but in salt water, at least up north in Connecticut and RI its useless....I've tried every combination with it I could think of and 3 friends thing of and no luck in salt water unless backed down to the point of no sense in being out there.
That should sound like a strangled duck when passed over about any target. They sing out over a target.
Battery life on mine is around 60 to 90 hours....
The beeps are the battery life. If you can try someone elses coil. Check and see if coil is tightly screwed in, more than likely it is, but worth a look. I use mine for fresh water almost daily and I've been traveling the last 2 years a lot around the USA and it works in all fresh water lakes, ponds and rivers... Great in the dirt also.....salt I have to give it the thumbs down.....
Theres a lot to choose from for salt, Fisher, Minelab, most of the PI units do a decent job, even Garrett. I've found if its working the rest seems to be the guy with the headphones on and how well he covers a bottom, how well he knows his machine and tones, and not all tones are user friendly, headphones, where and when you hunt...A lot of suddle stuff that taken as a whole can make or break your day at the beach. In many cases some machines might hunt well, but in iron laden or trashy areas may give you fits.... Do as your doing , ask a lot of question, try as many machines as you can, and them when you settle on one, learn it well...
I have 3 Minelabs, 2 Garretts, 1 Tesoro and always on the prowl for another one to try....That half the fun of it.....Enjoy, and safe and good hunting...

George, your words are heartbreaking. I guess I will be doing more fresh than salt. I was hoping for some good finds at the beach. Oh well.
