Tiger Shark to heavy. What is next best MD for fresh water?

Idaho-Marke

New member
I live in the mountains and may see the surf once every few years. I'm looking for a fresh water machine to use when it is to hot to go dirt fishing.

Heard the TS was the best for fresh water, but it was to bulky. This was years ago and I haven't kept up on whats going on in the water hunting world.

Can you give me some suggestions? Thx.

I have a Fisher CZ20 and it's a pretty bulky/heavy detector. I think the Minelab Excalibur is heavy as well although design wise I don't think it's as bulky.

The Beachhunter ID may be the lightest one of the bunch.

Check mfg. websites - I'm sure they give the weights on there.

I use a tiger and it ways next to nothing in the water. i have it mounted under the arm cup and i can swing that puppy all day in the water. hope this helps

I gotta agree with Gary. The Fishers are clunky and the Excal is both costly and weighty/awkward. Between the BHID or the TS, Ill keep my TS. In fact, I should say this: if you think the TS is too heavy, maybe you need to take up a different hobby or start hitting the gym.
In this case you can't believe everything you hear.

Really, once youre in the water and digging signals, it amounts to nothing. I like to mount mine on the rod as the lower center of weight helps keep it nuetral bouyant.

The only other detector worth considering if you want a featherweight is one of the DetectoPro models, the Wader or Diver. The only practical difference is the Diver is waterproof to a greater depth than the Wader. I reviewed a Wader a few weeks ago on the DetectorPro forum. Go check it out and see what you think - here's the link:

i just got my 3rd Tiger Shark today.in the water you cant even tell its there (if you belt mount it)! i had a Fisher 1280x and it actually wants to float up if belt mounted...i had a CZ 20 last month and it was exactly like the 1280X..i had a Excalibur 1000 last year and it was the worst of all..all of these are heavy if shaft mounted, but none are heavy if belt mounted! i like the Tiger Shark better on small gold and chains! i like the ID tone of the CZ20..i also had a BHID and it falsed a lot..so for me the TS is the all around best.

I have and really like the BHID!!! If you were getting false signals you might of had the sensitivity set too high. I don't have any problems with my BHID. Also if you like you can purchase the new super 12" spider-type epoxy-filled (open coil) White's will install it for a small fee. This coil adds a 25 to 30% depth increase with stability as I've heard and I'm going to send mine in for the upgrade when the season ends. IMHO I use the BHID in salt and fresh water all the time and have great results with it. HH

Only for wading. Have done the same to Excal. Idea is from book: Advanced Shallow Water Treasure Hunting by Wallace L. Chandler (Fisher).
