Tiger Shark question

Metal Monster

New member
Hello everyone. I don't get to post as offen as I would like due to a new baby in the family but I do read the posts here as much as I can.

I have a question about the Tiger Shark. I received a Tiger Shark this week (used but in great shape) and I just want to verify something. Is it normal that when I gently shake the detector while it's raised
in the air parallel to the ground that it will beep on each gentle shake? It will also do this when the coil is close to the ground. The unit is older and has the changable coil cable.

My Vaquero does not do this so I am a little worried that something may be wrong. Any input?

Cheers!

I have experienced beeping like your saying and most of the time it is nothing to worry about. It is probably due to some sort of EMI or detector settings cranked too high and when you intentionally shake it sometimes they will beep. I have thought this same question in the past when I experienced what you described:) Best of luck, good hunting and congratulations on the new addition to the family!

Thanks Randy. I may get a chance to try out the detector tonight at the local ski hill so I will be able to tell then if the Tiger has issues or not.
I have used my Fisher 1280x and Garrett ACE 350 there already this winter so I should be able to tell after that if there is a problem or not.

Make sure the cable is wrapped fairly well, especiall near the coil. It should have enough slack so as not to over stress it if the coil angle is changed, but be snug enough to not wiggle in range of the coil when shaken.

Dave Johnson who designed several Tesoros suggests running the coil wire straight up the shaft and making a hank at the top secured by a plastic strip fastener.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Turns out there was a little bit of corrosion at the bottom of the control housing on some of the contacts just under the battery pack. Looks like there might have been a leaky battery at some point in the detectors life.
Anyway, I have been in touch with Tesoro and the seller of the unit and he has arranged a refund to get the detector fixed and updated. Wheather this was causing the erratic behavour or not I'm not sure but it looks like I will have a like new Tiger Shark soon.

As for the coil wrapping issue, I have read that coil should be wrapped and also read it should run straight up the shaft like doc holiday says so still not sure what is right.

I use to wrap the coil cable around the pole but now I run the coil cable straight up pole... loop it at control box and connect with minimal flex. I'm thinking the less flexing the longer the life of coil cable... especially for ones who break down their units a lot. Glad everyone is taking care of your Tiger and I'm sure you will be pleased! Good hunting!
