Tiger Shark problems :stretcher:

I got my new/used Tiger Shark in today, got it cleaned, lubed, powered up, ground balanced and out to the test garden to check it out with both coils. With the 10.5" coil I could hit my 4" dime but my 6" dime was very faint, could barely hear it and my 9" dime not a hint in either all metal or discriminate mode. I honestly did not like the large coil so I swapped in the 8" coil and like it much better for it's weight and balance. I could pick up my 4" dime but it was a chopped/chirped faint signal and could only pick up my 6" dime barely in all metal. I couldn't find my 6" nickel at all but my 2" tab, bottle cap and small ball of foil sounded off really well, just how I was hoping the dimes would sound off. Is this normal? I hope not anyway. I also had to really crank up my discriminate past 5 to knock out the small ball of foil and thought that was odd it did not drop sooner. I had adjusted the threshold slightly, increased volume a bit to be plenty loud on surface objects and let me hear deep stuff. I also tinkered with the sensitivity. I was almost at max setting and turning it up caused chatter so I had to reduce it very slightly to make the chatter go away. I experimented with the ground balance to make sure I had it just right and I could tell when I had it too negative or too positive, so that's not the issue. The only good signals that said "dig me" were some surface coins I tried and the 2" trash targets in my test garden; everything else I would probably interpret at falsing or iron stuff getting through my low discrimination. Any suggestions? Is this what to expect or does it look like a trip to Tesoro for a tune up and hope for the best?

I don't know, it might need a tune up!

Air tests were disappointing as well and I did those first. I did not put much stock in them but when I went to the ground, then I got worried.

Call Tesoro and ask them for there opinion

Oh I will, just wanted to give them a breather over there what with the new Outlaw coming out and the likely abundance of calls going in and out regarding the new detector. I had plans to call them next week anyway to talk about getting one and if it would fit my needs for a land machine. Also a good time to ask them about my presumably sick Tiger Shark. I also had another thought earlier that points at something wrong. My Compadre I had would air test better and hit some of these test garden targets deeper and cleaner than the Tiger. I can't imagine anyone telling me the Compadre is a deeper machine than the Tiger Shark!

It is a water detector first and an all around detector after all. My Deleon test deeper than my tigershark in dry soil. The tigershark with the 8 inch coil is better in trash and rain. Still haven't taken to the lake. The Quattro with 10.5" coil is way deeper on dime size coins but if trashy must lower sens and probably looses the advantage in depth. There are always tradeoffs. I don't dig nails with the tiger but I occasionally do with the Deleon, while the Quattro Likes to find them.

Maybe it will go deep in the water? I'll get a chance to find out next weekend. If I'm still not happy with it then it's going back where it was born.

I have inhaled enough from the Outlaw LOL, yes call me or send it in. It does not sound right to me!

Thanks Robert; I will probably just send it in but will likely give it a go around the lake this coming weekend to see if it improves or not but I don't think it will get any better:shrug: Thanks again!
