Tiger Shark Mod

Finished the new coil mod for my Tiger Shark. I installed the new Tesoro 11X8 coil. I have several coils I interchange with the Tiger but the 11X8 beginning to be a quick favorite but more testing will tell. Sensitivity and depth is amazing. The coil hits on thin gold chains and small gold jewelry as good as the 5.75 coil. I tested it against my compadre with the 5.75 and the 11X8 hits deeper targets as expected...but the sensitivity was neck and neck in the test garden. I don't post much, but felt I had to share this. I will be river hunting in the morning and will post my findings after water hunting with it. I will also test it against the 5.75 I have for my Tiger so the same machine is used.

Nice mod there Darryl...just curious....... how is the coil connected to the control box, hard wired or screw on connection?

I dont need to hardwire so I use Bulgin buccaneer connectors. I don't dive so these work great to 10'-15' submerged.

Looks nice. Wonder if the DD would perform better on the salt compared to the concentric?

Any updates on this Darryl? Are you happy with this coil? any issues? thinking about doing this myself...did you use the epsilon coil? how deep are you detecting?

I'm currious where you aquired the coil. A as I had the same exact coil connected to a compadre headphone unit. .

I think I can answer that for him...The white colored RSD coil is the epsilon 5 pin version. The 4 pin Delta RSD coil is black in color.

On the machines Ive used, there was no difference in sensitivity between the smallest coil and up to a larger coil. For Tesoros I know the 5.75" widescan I had on my Tejon was no more sensitive than the 12X10 widescan I used to use on it for beach hunting. I just changed the coil on a compadre, 5.75 to 8"...again no difference.
There are probably some out there since you read it so much about small coil sensitivity but Ive not seen it and Ive used quite a few.

That 11X8 looks like a nice coil. Is the cable coming out of it in the way of the cable bolt......looks close.

I didn't realize this was an old post. I was looking forward to reading the results, then I seen the date that it was posted. I would still like to hear how well the coil worked. I have one in the mail somewhere, thinking either tomorrow or Thursday.....

I talked to Tesoro about installing this coil on a TS and apparently there are some issues. Firstly, the coil is not depth rated to the same spec as the TS, they explained that there were concerns even at 10-20 ft. Second, the TS would have to be retuned for the RSD coil...something they will not do. They will not sell me a new TS with the RSD coil on it so I have given up on the idea.....

I have a mint Stingray 2 with interchangable coil connection. Been debating on installing the epsilon or maybe just unloading the unit for somthing else? Not sure yet?
