Tiger Shark Chatter

I have a fairly new Tiger, and noticed that sometimes it will chatter a little. This happens when the coil is motionless OR moving, and when it does this, you can hold the coil up in the air, or whatever, and it still will chatter. It doesn't do this all the time, but mainly after I have been using it a while. You can turn the disc. up, and it has no affect. The chatter is not bad enough to "mess up" the hunting ability, and I wonder if the sensitivity could be too high. If that's the case, why wouldn't it do it all the time? Cable is secure, no water has been inside, connectors seem to be tight. I have smacked a few underwater rocks, but not too bad.....This is a very good machine(freshwater is what I'm in), and this may be somewhat "normal" for it.?? Thanks for any tips on the matter..

I had the same problem and sent my 3 month old Tigershark in. I was told that the coil had leaked and Tesoro put a new coil on and sent it back. Tesoro also reset all the internal settings (volume, sensitivity, & threshold). No problems since.

Howdy tesoronut

when your Tiger Shark starts acting up, take a look around and see if you are close to overhead power lines, buried power lines and or buried telephone lines. Any of these scenarios would mess with your detector. Also tv , radio and microwave towers might mess with it.But it might be that your sensitivity is a little too hot also,Just a few thoughts HH.......Hombre

Both of you may have a point. However, Lakehunter might be "on the money". Lake, did your machine only start doing this after you had been in the water a while? I may need to use it a little more for a better diagnosis. I'd hate to have to send it back, but.....anyway, Thanks for the posts!!

I thought it was the coil because when it was dry it worked great. When wet it started chattering. At the time I thought it was the sensitivity and ajusted it. This only made it worse. I like to faintly drag the coil on the sany bottom lakes. I have also bumped rocks in the process. I also had a hard time sending a new machine in for repair. but it was well worth it. Hope this helps.

The Tiger will "Beep" right when then connector enters water or leaves the water so if you are in wavy water with connector bobbing in an out of the water, than can create falsing.

I would say that when I experience this problem the connector is at least WET.......I've been hunting in about 3 to 4' of water, which would put the box connector in that area of in/out of the water. And I haven't noticed the problem as bad(now that you mention it) when I'm out deeper, with the box totally under water. Hey, you just may have a point!! Thanks!

Thanks for that info. Usually when I go diggin', I go from one spot to another, so the machine will often be submerged, taken out, re-submerged, etc. After reading Scully's post, I'm a little inclined to think he may have a point. If my coil had a leak, it seems to me that the problem would get worse as the day wears on, but I may leave one spot, or one certain "depth" and go to another depth, or area, and the problem goes away(but happens again once in a while). It could be that I'm in that "depth zone" where the machine is bobbing in/out when the problem occurs.......I'll have to go out again with it and pay more attention to conditions and water depth to get a better idea. I've only taken this machine out 4 times, since buying it new. I've made some really good finds with it, though! Thanks again

No problem tesoronut,

I am going to also check this out. I am usually deeper but have never paid to much attention to the machine as I enter the water because I ground balance it at the depth i'm hunting. Good Luck. :detecting:

I guess I need to g-b at my hunting depth(but have been doing it at waters edge). I'll try that, too. Thanks....Rick

Yep! My SR2 does it when the box connector touches the water, no reason just does it. I usually go deeper or go shallower and it quits. It does mess with your head.
