I will be buying a water detector this winter for next year and would like to hear and see some sucess stories so I can make up my mind help me out

I really like my TS it loves small jewelry and yet it still discriminates I've found three rings with it do far and a lot of clad coins, it's a fresh water shark!

I hunt the beaches of central Florida and love my Sand Shark !! If its metal the Sand Shark will find it. I also use my Sand Shark in fresh water lakes and it works great. It would be nice to have a TS for fresh water hunting for its discrimination ability. If you are doing primarily salt get the SS and if fresh get the Tiger, I know you will be happy !

I have a Sand Shark that I bought in May and have been trying it out in the swimming lakes in my area until I can get down to
the beach later this year.
So far I am very impressed by its performance and balance.. just have to remember.. this is a PI machine.. NO DISC CONTROL !!
I don't mind since I am finding good targets also and besides, sand digging is way easier than dirt digging.
If you don't plan on using one down in saltwater, you might want to go with the Tiger Shark, but in saltwater the Sand Shark is the one to get in my opinion and from what I have read others say.

Phinbolt,

When you say "beach", do you mean fresh or salt water? Thats makes all the difference.

Fresh water: get the Tiger Shark. Super sensitive to small gold and you can discriminate.

Salt water: I would not use the Tiger Shark. Even in Salt Mode it does not function well in the wet salt sand or surf and that is where you want to hunt to find jewelry. Sand Shark is your only option in the wet stuff. Just know there is no discrimination. You will dig everything. But it goes very deep, so make sure you buy yourself a good long handled sand scoop. Dry beach sand tends to have a lot of junk so it will be tough hunting with the SS. You may want to bring your land detector for dry sand hunting instead.

I was hoping to do both salt water and fresh water and want the best for both dry sand I can use my DeLeon it has proven itself time and again

Tiger Shark is known as an excellent fresh water detector. I have not used one so I can't say how it does in the salt water. After reading that it was not so good in salt water, I went different ways; including picking up a Sand Shark.

Sand Shark works very well in fresh and salt water. The only thing of concern is how much iron trash you may have where you hunt. If there is a lot of it, you will dig a lot of it with the Sand Shark. If it isn't too bad, then the Sand Shark can find you the goods you want to find!

I hope some others can talk about the Tiger Shark in salt water environments.
Cheers,
tvr

I just picked up a Tiger Shark last week. I've had a chance to use it a few times at the beach (salt). It works decent in the dry sand, but as far as the surf & wet sand go, I noticed it falsed a lot & didn't have much depth. I'll probably just use it for land hunting, as I have another machine I prefer for saltwater.

The Tiger does NOT handle salt water very well as does any Tesoro except the Sand Shark. Have not owned a Sand Shark but it is a PI unit, and as such salt water should not be an issue but it better be a clean beach...or you will be digging EVERY bobby pin and piece of metal you come across. Sad to say...Tesoro does not make a all around water unit. I love my Tesoros....but...a Fisher CZ-21 is a better choice if you are even thinking about hitting a salt water beach.

I don't think we should be too shy about recommending other brands if there is something out there better suited to the task at hand. That's the nature of competition and if a brand doesn't like losing a sale, step up and make something that fills that niche.

Tesoros are excellent, but so are some of the other brands. I think you do yourself a disservice if you restrict yourself to only one brand when deciding on a new detector. Look at what you want the detector for, then make a shortlist of each brand's detectors that might fit the bill. Then look at the features available on each, the price, and the reputation. It's just like buying a new car.
