TID's for IH Pennies

chuckciao

New member
X-Terra users,
I found a couple of old parks in my area and already found two Barber Dimes, one in each park. My goal is to find an Indian Head Penny which has so far alluded me. I would greatly appreciate knowing the TID's for Indian Head Pennies from those of you that have found them. I am using the 705 with the 6"HF coil. I Greatly appareciate your help.
Thanks
Chuck

I usually get 28 and 30 but other people on here have even lower tids.

I've dug several hundred IH cents with my X-TERRAs. With a properly adjusted detector, and without adjacent targets or your IH on edge, I've dug them with readings from 24 to 32 on the X-70 and 705. I'd never dug one at a 26 until a couple weeks ago. Due to metallic content, the oldest ones come in with the lower numbers.

Zinc (ish) to high pull tab if I recall. I think the one I found with the Xterra hit at 24 (?).

I have found both types with the stock coil. The pre 1864 shows as a 20 they are 88% copper and 12% nickel and after 1864 show as a 32 on the stock coil. The alloy changed to 95% copper and 5% tin and lead. So if your working an old site you may get two different readings on a Indian head. Good luck on your quest they are a great coin.
