Tide Charts?

Sand Scoop

New member
I've been checking different web pages for the tide charts for Myrtle Beach,SpringMaid Pier. Unless I'm reading something wrong there can be a difference of 30 minutes shown between tide charts for the same location so my question would be which chart gives the accurate time lets say for low tide at the pier?

Depends on where you are exactly, a few miles from the "tied measure point" can make a difference.

NOAA has tide charts on their web site.

I use www.fryingpantower.com for mine.

Use this:

http://www.tidesonline.com/showtable.php?IDNUM=1102&stationname=Charleston
Look for Myrtle Beach.

Also, check at your local bait shop and surf shops sometimes they give away a yearly tide chart, pocket size.

Hope this helps

My wife and I refer to Tides Online for info on a regular basis. Sometimes when we get down there the tide is REALLY low, I've heard it referred to as a minus tide. Does anyone know how to determine what that takes place. I'm sure there's a way because when it's a really low tide the beach pirates are out in force.

Its all about the moon position, full, half etc. The moon and it's distance to the Earth changes constantly which equals higher or lower tides during the month. full moon has a more extreme than half moon and so on....
look at moon charts and tide charts and see how they relate, can be some boring reading but it is good. Also talk to surfers, they use them too.
