Thursday Hunt Morning

Well I checked out our weather and it's looking bleak tomorrow and I have an all day thing Saturday and Sunday so I went out for a long one this morning. Started out on a softball outfield which had almost no targets. Found three coins and the swirly pendant (or part of a hair clip) thing. The contrast between it and my carpet stinks but it will have to do. Did about a third of the outfield and moved over to the playground to put something more in my pockets. I like finding crucifixes and I have three others just like this one. The truck and cow were buried together. The cow is not metallic. The little QE2 bangle is also the second one I've found at this location but in a completely different place. It must come from a purse or piece of jewelry with a lot of them attached. Two less now.

Here is the interesting part of my morning. I was there for four hours and about every hour this white van pulled in driven by a girl with two males as passengers. They kind of hid behind a wall and one of the males kept shouting very loud and beating his chest in my direction. My phone was back in my truck and I debated calling the cops. After the second time I said to myself if they come back I had better call the cops. Well they came back and I walked toward my truck and as I did one of the guys started hitting the girl. I asked if she was ok and she said there was no problem, that he had tourettes, and that she was his caretaker. I noticed the van was full of handicapped adults and they got out, walked to a pavilion and ate lunch. I said a little prayer for the guy who never stopped screaming. Anyway about 10 minutes later the girl came over to me and said I was bothering her charges. They were used to having the place alone and I said I would move out of their sight and she thanked me. I still heard the guy shouting so it wasn't me that set him off. So after they finish lunch they drive past me and stop and ask if they can watch. I looked at the girl and said I thought I was disturbing them. She didn't really have an answer. They watched for a minute or two and left. I said another prayer.

Change is 84 coins for $9.51. No zinc cents, I'm notching them out again. About a million old style pull tabs. Still no silver or gold from this site.

Read onto part two for a better find.

Decided to try to hit 100 coins for the day with about 45 minutes of daylight left so I went to a tiny little playground that is built where the rectory of the local Catholic Church once stood. Needed 16 coins and it is only a block from my house. I have hunted this area 2 or 3 times with my Ace 250. It is pretty trashy with both modern and old garbage. Always a good coin spot as long as you're meticulous. I have to say that this is the hunt made me glad I upgraded to the GTI 2500. I was running a modified coin program with a few extra notches around nickel on and a few below penny off. Discrimination set to 8. Brand new batteries. No headphones. I still hate wearing them. Third find was the winged liberty (merc) dime. My first and it's an oldie and an S. 1918S! It made my whole month. Next find was the unmarked earring which I think is an angel. Pewter if I had to make a guess. The other little gold thing might be a butterfly wing. It looked like gold when I dug it up but I don't think so now. Coins were all deep and I don't think I would have found most with the ACE 250. The merc on the other hand was only 3 inches but surrounded by metal trash. Also found a very rusty piece of a pocket knife which I think is in the back of my PU. A few square nails. Lots of little pieces of copper pipe. I had found a few wheats at this site in the past and was hoping for silver one day. 20 modern coins for $2.43 in exactly one hour. Last 15 minutes had to hunt under a street light.

Hope this gives Uncle Willy a bit of a MD fix until he can get out on his own. I probably won't get out again until Monday. Very close to 5000 coins with my two Garrett detectors since mid June and only $19 shy of $500.00 with them. If you add my Bounty Hunter loot onto the total, I am way above 5000 coins and $500.00 for the year as it was my only detector during April, May, and half of June. Also broke the $100 clad mark with the GTI 2500 today in just under 4 weeks. Not to mention a lot of other goodies including silver coins and jewelry. Still no gold with the green machine. Soon!

The last picture is something I found last week-end. It is 3 inches tall. Should have put something else in the photo for reference. Anytime you're feeling down about yourself please remember that some idiot actually parted with his hard earned (probably not) money to buy this piece of junk and then actually wore it in public. If it was gold I would have a much higher opinion of this individual.

Good luck!

Chris

Forgot to mention it. The loon was the prize in the guess the coins contest as it arrived at my door. Thanks again, Steve!

I turn on the zincs when I am in older areas. Since 90 percent of my hunting is parks, schools, and ballfields it is usually off. Should have had it on tonight at the old playgound but I will be back there soon. Also real clean sites I run with everything on except for iron but I frequently skip targets I have IDed as zinc pennies. You have warned me before to dig them, some day I'll learn. Next time I complain that I still haven't found an IH you let me have it with both barrels, ok?
